Job description

Job Title: Senior Mechatronics and Robotics Technician

Job Description

The Senior Mechatronics and Robotics Technician supports high-speed, automated material handling and robotic systems by performing advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities. This role focuses on repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment while mentoring junior technicians and promoting a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operations maintenance team in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, such as conveyors, sorters, and related automation systems, throughout the facility.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical and control components including photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.
  • Perform predictive and preventive maintenance procedures on material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks (PMs) accurately and on time, and provide detailed feedback on any improvements or modifications needed to enhance equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance programs by providing feedback based on hands-on experience and data-driven insights.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues in material handling systems, including identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Apply knowledge of MHE safety standards and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidelines to ensure all maintenance activities meet or exceed safety requirements.
  • Use maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work performed, track maintenance history, and support planning of future maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and other maintenance team members to plan and execute repairs, upgrades, and projects that improve system performance and reliability.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians by sharing technical expertise, best practices, and safety standards, helping to build a strong and capable maintenance team.
  • Support risk management efforts by identifying potential equipment and safety risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to automation and control systems improvements by providing feedback on system performance and participating in implementation of enhancements.
  • Leverage data analysis and basic project management principles to prioritize maintenance activities and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with automation and control systems in a high-speed material handling or distribution environment.
  • Familiarity with conveyor maintenance, sortation systems, robotics, and automated packaging equipment.
  • Exposure to maintenance management, preventive maintenance planning, and risk management practices.
  • Experience using data analysis to support troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and maintenance decision-making.
  • Project management experience related to maintenance, upgrades, or installation of automated systems.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or similar approaches.
  • Experience mentoring junior technicians or providing informal maintenance supervision.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in a large, automated distribution or fulfillment facility working directly with material handling equipment, conveyors, sorters, robotics, and pneumatic systems. You regularly stand and walk throughout the facility and may move items weighing up to 49 pounds during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. The typical schedule follows a four-day workweek, either Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday, with day shifts from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and night shifts from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Non-Wednesday workdays are about 11.5 hours on site (12 hours with a 30-minute break), while Wednesdays are half days of about 5.5 hours on site (6 hours with a 30-minute break). Shifts may be organized as Front Half Day, Back Half Day, Front Half Night, and Back Half Night blocks. The environment is fast-paced, highly automated, and safety-focused, with frequent interaction with industrial equipment, control systems, and maintenance tools.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75400.00 - $90700.00/yr.
