Our client, a global leader in bioethanol, biofuels, and biochemical process technologies, is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer โ Process & Plant Design to help deliver innovative process technology projects from concept development through startup. Compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience, technical expertise, industry background, and overall qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical engineering function (20% team leadership, 80% hands-on design).
- Develop and maintain piping specifications, mechanical standards, and design details.
- Create and review 2D/3D engineering packages using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Interpret and update PFDs, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings.
- Review vendor drawings, fabrication packages, and equipment data sheets.
- Perform hydraulic calculations, pump sizing, and rotating equipment selection.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with TEMA, ASME, ASTM, API, and NFPA standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Other degrees will be considered pending prior experience.
- Ideal candidate will have 10+ years of related experience in mechanical design or a manufacturing environment (turnarounds, projects, or equipment procurement /review)
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of P&ID development
- Fluency with AutoCAD โ Plant 3D, P&ID updates, 2D Drawing creation
- Excel in the fundamentals of hydraulics and rotating equipment sizing (various types of pumps, blowers, vacuum pumps)
- Proficiency in TEMA, API standards, ASME VIII and ASTM
- Experience executing capital projects or site modifications for the chemical or biofuel industry.
Working knowledge of the following Software:
- Navisworks 3D Viewer
- Bluebeam
- Pump sizing software โ Goulds or Sulzer
- Fisher Spec Manager and Control Valve Sizing
- Microsoft suite of products, specifically Excel and VBA
