Job description

Mechanical Design Intern
AutomationDirect isoffering a paid Mechanical Design internship for 2025. As an intern for ourcompany, you will build experience designing and assembling prototypes andfixtures for robotic and automated systems. The job will consist ofopportunities utilizing CAD software and 3D printing. The job requires handlingof packages weighing up to 35 pounds.
Age Restrictions: Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position,candidates must be at least 16 years of age to be considered.
The Logistics Team works Monday through Friday between thehours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Those are the days and time window for whichinterns can schedule their working hours.
Hours during school: 3 or more hours preferred no less than 3 days per week.
Summer hours: Full Time (up to 40 hours per week).
Continued work after graduation:This position has the potential to transition to a permanent employment opportunity with flexible hours to permit full time college status while still employed. AutomationDirect provides full benefits plus tuition reimbursement for employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Work under the guidance of experienced engineers to create a concept, design, prototype, and test various designs, tools, test fixtures, or associated equipment
  • Arrange and set up 3D printer files primarily for FDM printers, but also SLA printers such as Formlabs
  • Post-process print jobs, including cleaning print bed, washing, and curing models
  • Take care of any issues arising from a failed or partially failed print
  • Maintain a clean workspace which includes cleaning up filament or resin drips according to the policies and procedures set up
  • Design and assemble aluminum extrusion structures for internal projects
  • Be able to communicate effectively using MS Office programs, email, phone
  • Prioritize tasks to successfully accomplish goals
  • Perform troubleshooting occasionally with the 3D printer, contacting the vendor if necessary
  • Maintain a safe work environment, follow company health, safety housekeeping and environmental policies and procedures
  • Occasionally performing some small tasks with robotic equipment
  • Will require the use of hand tools for assembling and post processing duties for the 3D Printer

Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with 3D Printing
  • Familiarity with MS Office Products for communication and documentation
  • Familiarity with Solidworks or AutoCAD
