How much do remote mechanical design jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote mechanical design in the United States is $91,578.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $76,000.00 and $103,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Mechanical Design position, and why are they important?

To excel in Remote Mechanical Design, a candidate should possess a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, and often a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and simulation software, as well as certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), are highly valued. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and effective time management set standout professionals apart in remote work settings. These abilities are crucial for delivering quality designs, collaborating effectively with distributed teams, and meeting project deadlines in virtual environments.

What are typical daily responsibilities for someone in a Remote Mechanical Design role?

In a Remote Mechanical Design position, your day-to-day responsibilities usually involve creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings, coordinating with engineers and project managers via virtual meetings, and iterating designs based on feedback or shifting requirements. You'll often be tasked with running simulations and troubleshooting mechanical systems, documenting your work thoroughly, and ensuring all designs meet industry standards. Because the work is remote, clear digital communication and effective file-sharing are essential to collaborate efficiently with colleagues. Over time, you may also have opportunities to take on more complex projects or mentor junior designers, supporting your career growth within the organization.

What is a Remote Mechanical Design job?

A Remote Mechanical Design job involves creating, analyzing, and improving mechanical components or systems using CAD software and engineering principles while working remotely. Engineers collaborate with teams, communicate via digital tools, and ensure designs meet specifications and industry standards. Common tasks include 3D modeling, simulation, prototyping, and documentation. This role is common in industries like automotive, aerospace, and consumer products. Strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in design software, and effective remote communication are essential for success.

Job description

A remote Mechanical Designer job is currently available through Belcan supporting an existing full vehicle design undergoing refinement and production-focused updates. To be considered for this role, you will bring strong SolidWorks experience and a background in mechanical design across fabrication methods such as machined parts, sheet metal, and composites. Experience supporting aerospace or UAS (unmanned aircraft systems) platforms is strongly desired. In this role, you will support design updates for DFM, weight reduction, and overall product improvement.
Job Duties:
You will support detailed mechanical design updates and improvements across an existing vehicle system, focusing on manufacturability, performance, and integration.
Support design updates for DFM, weight reduction, and overall product improvement
Modify and develop components in SolidWorks (machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, and composites)
Perform GD&T analysis and support tolerance stack-ups for critical interfaces
Conduct galvanic corrosion assessments and material compatibility evaluations
Update and release drawings, ensuring production-ready documentation
Support composites design, including jigs, fixtures, and molds where applicable
Required:
Five or more years of mechanical design experience using SolidWorks
Strong experience working with at least some of the following: machined parts, sheet metal, or plastic components
Experience updating existing designs (not just clean-sheet design work)
Working knowledge of GD&T and basic tolerance analysis
Exposure to aerospace, aviation, or UAS systems is preferred, but not required
Ability to take partial requirements and execute detailed design tasks independently
Preferred:
Experience with aerospace, UAV/UAS, or similar vehicle systems
Experience with full vehicle assemblies (airframe, structural integration, etc.)
Background in composites design, including tooling (jigs, fixtures, molds)
Experience supporting DFM, cost reduction, or weight optimization initiatives
Familiarity with corrosion considerations, especially galvanic interactions
Exposure to SolidWorks Electrical routing in assemblies
We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary rate of $83,200 to $114,400 however, Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
