Applications Engineer Level 2

Axis leverages the teamwork of our leading engineers and machine builders to conceptualize, design, integrate, deploy and service factory automation systems for forward-thinking manufacturing customers. Our team has decades of automation experience, spanning hundreds of projects and thousands of automation configurations.

Job Title: Applications Engineer Level 2

Job Description: The Applications Engineer Level 2 will work within the Applications Engineering department to configure manufacturing system proposals and support the Axis team through the deployment of awarded solutions. This engineer must have some experience in industrial automation/manufacturing or related field. Requires knowledge of project budgeting, custom automated equipment, along with manufacturing processes and equipment. Relevant engineering disciplines include controls, mechanical, industrial and welding.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare detailed automated assembly equipment proposals
  • Interact with suppliers and cross functional team members to solicit input establishing project proposals
  • Prepare process steps, concept generation, budget, and cycle time analysis
  • Identify labor hour requirements, material requirements, risk, cost and timing for each project
  • Obtain external quotes from vendor base, find new support sources and advance process technology
  • Understand customer expectations and convey to fellow team members
  • Lead quote and project related meetings as needed
  • Support project kickoff, build and engineering teams with concept and customer specifics
  • Assist in expanding workable libraries for actual cost feedback loop to improve estimating
  • Independently support customer visits and meetings (occasionally off-site at customers facility)
  • Professional management of customer relationships and requests
  • Active in building customer relationships
  • Real-time communication with company management on developments

Education and Experience Requirements

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering-related field – Or comparable field experience in similar role with exposure to industrial automation systems
  • 2-3 years of experience with project management, budgeting and quoting custom automated equipment or similar responsibilities within relevant industry
  • Capable of working independently in a self-directed manner while contributing as part of a team to achieve common goals
  • Comfortable with speaking technically in front of groups (co-workers & customers)
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel/Word)
  • Familiarity with automated processes and equipment (Assembly, Welding, Adhesive, Machining, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CAD/3D modeling, or viewing software

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000
