JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Meat Department Associate/Meat Cutter/Butcher

Age Requirement: 18 or older

Job Summary: The Meat Department Associate is responsible for providing high-quality meat products and excellent customer service to ensure customer satisfaction. This role involves various tasks related to meat preparation, cutting, packaging, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards within the department.

Responsibilities:

  1. Meat Preparation:
  • Cut, trim, and portion meat products according to customer specifications.
  • Prepare ground meat, sausages, and other specialty products.
  • Season, marinate, and package meat products for display and sale.
  1. Customer Service:
  • Assist customers in selecting and purchasing meat products.
  • Answer customer questions regarding different cuts of meat, cooking methods, and meal preparation.
  • Provide recommendations and cooking tips.
  1. Stocking and Display:
  • Ensure meat displays are well-stocked, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Rotate and replenish meat products to maintain freshness.
  • Monitor product expiration dates and remove expired items.
  1. Cleaning and Sanitation:
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, including cutting equipment and display cases.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Dispose of waste and trimmings properly.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Assist with receiving and inspecting meat shipments.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or overages to the supervisor.
  • Help with regular inventory counts.
  1. Equipment Maintenance:
  • Ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of meat processing equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  1. Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations, including temperature control and handling of raw meat.
  • Follow health and safety protocols, including the use of protective gear like gloves and aprons.
  • Any smoke/vape breaks are to be taken outside the building. DO NOT smoke or vape in any coolers or bathrooms. If caught smoking or vaping in building it will be grounds for immediate dismissal and or termination.
  1. Team Work:
  • Stay home if you are sick and contagious.
  • If you are sick you will need to do your best to cover your shift, but you need to give us at least a 2 hour notice.
  • In the instance of a work place accident, or injury we reserve the right to do a drug test.
  1. Store Uniform:

o You are expected to come to work with company shirt and name badge.

o Levis or slacks are expected to be worn to work. Absolutely NO leggings, sweat pants, or pants with holes in them.

o You need to wear appropriate shoes for you department.

o Hair needs to be in a hat or up in a ponytail.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a meat department, butcher shop, or food service is preferred.
  • Knowledge of different cuts of meat and meat preparation techniques.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., meat cuts and boxes).
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation practices.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours as required.
  • Ability to get and keep a food handlers permit.
