Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dallas Mavericks are seeking a Design Intern to join the Creative Studio of the Marketing department for the 2026-27 NBA season. The intern will directly and indirectly assist the creative team in the execution of design systems as well as a wide assortment of brand communications that serve the needs of all lines of business within the front office. They will develop their visual communication skills within a dynamic team setting and engage in real work that powerfully engages our passionate fanbase. The ideal candidate will possess a professional disposition and be able to handle urgent needs with a high degree of flexibility. Ultimately, they will provide value to the Studio by conducting design research and completing special projects aimed at quality control and brand transformation.
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:
  • October 1, 2026 โ€“ April 30, 2027. (Duration may change because of performance and/or business needs)
  • Mandatory In-Person Internship Development Session. (Monday mornings.)
  • Must be able to work up to 29 hours per week (3-4 days/wk.), which may include nights and weekends as needed.
JOB FUNCTION:
  • Providing fundamental graphic support to the creative marketing teamโ€ฏ
  • Concepting and developing a wide variety of marketing materialsโ€ฏ
  • Initiating template ideas for recurring projects
  • Designing for a variety of mediums including digital, print, and apparel
  • Researching sports design trends and presenting findingsโ€ฏ
  • Communicating with project owners to understand objectivesโ€ฏ
  • Maintaining a high level of creative execution
  • Assembling practical step-by-step toolkits and recipes for standard MCS practicesโ€ฏ
  • Meeting with and shadowing fellow Studio teammatesโ€ฏ
  • Connecting with creative and marketing peers inside and outside of the team
  • Participating in the large group Intern presentation project on a progressive business idea
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must provide a portfolio to be considered
  • Demonstrated experience in color theory, layout, typography, logo design and photo editing
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustratorโ€ฏ
  • Figma experience a plus
  • Knowledge of AI tools and best practices
  • Ability to build and prepare files for printingโ€ฏ
  • Detail-oriented, flexible and adaptable to feedback
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and willingness to assist others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skillsโ€ฏ
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environmentโ€ฏ
  • Possess strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Jr. or 4-year college with a preferred concentration in Visual Communications or related field. If applying for college credit, you must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar).
