This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a strategic, technology-forward operator who can help transform Legal into an AI-native, streamlined, and data-driven function. Reporting to and partnering closely with the VP of Legal & Compliance Operations, the Director will help define how Legal operates, prioritizes work, leverages technology, and delivers value to the broader business.
The ideal candidate brings a unique combination of legal technology expertise, business transformation experience, systems thinking, and a passion for using technology and AI to simplify complex work. This leader will translate business strategy into an operating roadmap, lead cross-functional transformation initiatives, and build the processes, systems, and capabilities needed to support a modern legal function at scale.
Responsibilities
  • A key leader to help transform legal into an AI-native, streamlined, data-driven operation.

  • Drives business and legal operating transformation, defines business prioritization frameworks and OKRs across concurrent implementation workstreams, balancing operational readiness, risk, and business value.

  • Drives the operational roadmap and business requirements across Legal Technology platforms (CLM, workflow tools, Legal Tracker, DocuSign etc.), partnering with Corporate Systems/IT on technical delivery.

  • Lead and develop a team responsible for business process design, training, adoption, and end-user support across legal systems.

  • Serve as the primary business owner for legal system implementations, gathering legal requirements and needs, process maps

  • Contribute to governance, evaluation criteria, and responsible-use policy for AI-assisted legal workflows (e.g., contract review, document extraction, entity screening) from a business/process standpoint, partnering with technical teams on implementation.

  • Direct prioritization of automation opportunities across the legal ops portfolio and represent business impact of AI/automation initiatives to executive and compliance stakeholders.

  • Coach team members on stakeholder management, process design, and career growth; conduct performance reviews and support hiring/onboarding.

  • Partner with technical teams on vendor relationships and SOW/contract performance for platform providers and implementation partners from a business outcomes lens; escalate delivery risk.

  • Help create executive status reporting, business cases, and staffing proposals; present roadmap, risk, and adoption metrics to leadership.

  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment across Legal Operations, Compliance, and IT on shared priorities, dependencies, and go-live readiness.

  • Establish and monitor business-side SLAs (intake, triage, escalation) for support, driving root-cause resolution and continuous process improvement.

  • Champion process redesign and change management initiatives that reduce manual effort or improve data quality/integrity across legal operations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Operations, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in legal operations, business process management, or system implementation (business/functional side) within corporate legal, compliance, or enterprise environments, including 2+ years leading a team.

  • Demonstrated experience owning business requirements and adoption for a multi-platform legal technology environment (CLM, matter management/eBilling, or comparable).

  • Experience leading the business side of CLM implementations (e.g., Ironclad, Conga, Icertis, ContractPodAi) - requirements definition, workflow design, UAT, training, and adoption.

  • Experience defining governance, evaluation criteria, and use-case prioritization for AI-assisted legal workflows, partnering closely with technical/AI teams on execution.

  • Strong process design and business analysis skills; comfortable reading data/reporting outputs and translating them into decisions, without requiring hands-on SQL or scripting.

  • Systems thinking at a portfolio level: able to connect legal business strategy to a coherent operating model across systems.

  • Executive-level written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting strategy, risk, and adoption outcomes to senior leadership.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and change; able to bring structure and focus to evolving environments.

  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models from a business stakeholder role (backlog input, UAT, sprint reviews).

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements
This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the incumbent to have the ability to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is necessary.

General Overview of Compensation & Benefits:
We reasonably expect the base compensation offered for this position to range from an annual salary of $165,500.00 - $206,900, subject to adjustment based on business-related factors such as employee qualifications, geographic pay differentials (e.g., cost of labor/living, etc.), and operational considerations.
