Job description
Chevron is accepting applications for the Senior Product Owner, Point-of-Sale (POS) role. This role is part of the Global Marketing, Service, and Technology organization and is responsible for leading the evolution of the U.S. fuels Point-of-Sale retail technology.
This role leads the evolution of Chevron's U.S. fuels POS retail technology, defining the long-term product vision and roadmap for solutions that support transactions, payments, fleet and commercial card programs, loyalty, forecourt operations, compliance, connectivity, and the retailer experience.
U.S. fuels retailing is a complex payment environment that requires POS, forecourt, payment, loyalty, mobile, network, and compliance systems to operate reliably at scale across a mixed hardware estate while modernization is underway.
The Senior Product Owner is the accountable business owner for this ecosystem, setting priorities, making trade-off decisions, and ensuring POS capabilities meet business, retailer, operational, compliance, and technology needs.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Define and communicate the strategic vision, roadmap, and objectives for Chevron's POS ecosystem.
- Prioritize work based on business value, retailer impact, performance, compliance, and dependencies.
- Align the roadmap with retailer strategy, industry standards, payment mandates, and technology modernization.
- Assess emerging technologies for impact on operations, customer experience, security, and cost.
Product Ownership and Delivery
- Own the POS backlog across teams, including features, epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and releases.
- Write and refine technical requirements that engineering teams can build from directly.
- Lead release planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and prioritization.
- Partner with engineering and architecture to meet business, operational, and technical standards.
- Drive deployment, retailer adoption, readiness, pilots, rollout sequencing, and go/no-go decisions.
Retail Operations and Retailer Experience
- Work with retailers, marketers, field teams, and operations to understand site-level needs.
- Translate retailer and business needs into scalable product capabilities and process improvements.
- Ensure POS solutions improve customer experience and site efficiency.
- Reduce retailer friction and make it easier to do business with Chevron.
Payments, Loyalty, and Emerging Industry Trends
- Own POS integration with payments, fleet and commercial cards, loyalty, digital offers, mobile, and settlement.
- Ensure compliance with PCI DSS, EMV, Conexxus, and card brand requirements.
- Maintain working knowledge of fleet and commercial payment programs, including Visa Fleet 2.0 and Mastercard capabilities.
- Track payment trends and convert them into prioritized roadmap and backlog items.
- Partner with cybersecurity, risk, and compliance to maintain a secure payment environment.
Vendor and Budget Management
- Lead engagement with POS hardware, software, payment, loyalty, and site-system vendors and technology partners.
- Define vendor requirements and deliverables, review proposals and statements of work, and hold vendors accountable to committed scope, quality, and dates.
- Own the product budget: forecast, prioritize spending against roadmap value, and present investment recommendations with supporting business cases.
- Evaluate vendor roadmaps against Chevron's direction and identify dependency, obsolescence, and concentration risk early.
Operational Excellence
- Establish and monitor product performance metrics, adoption measures, availability targets, and operational KPIs.
- Lead prioritization and resolution of critical product incidents and escalations.
- Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, lessons learned, retailer feedback, and operational data.
- Ensure clean transition of delivered solutions into sustainable operational support models.
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on POS and payment systems experience. Direct experience with retail POS, forecourt/site systems, and payment terminals, such as configuration, testing, certification, pilot support, payment flow validation, or site-level issue diagnosis. Vendor or team oversight alone does not meet this requirement.
- Key vendor experience. Working experience with POS, dispenser, and site-system providers such as Invenco, Verifone, Gilbarco, NCR Voyix, PDI, or similar platforms, including requirements, integration, certification, or deployment.
- Product strategy and planning. Experience building and executing multi-year technology product strategies and roadmaps, including prioritization and senior stakeholder alignment.
- Domain depth. 10+ years in retail technology, product management, POS systems, or payment solutions, including 5+ years in fuel retail, convenience retail, or payments.
- Delivery leadership. 5+ years leading cross-functional technology initiatives from strategy through implementation, with accountability for outcomes and timelines.
- Payments and compliance fluency. Knowledge of payment processing, EMV, PCI DSS, tokenization, loyalty platforms, and retail technology integration.
- Vendor and budget accountability. Experience owning vendor relationships and product or program budgets.
- Stakeholder capability. Strong communication, facilitation, influencing, and senior leadership presentation skills.
- Agile delivery. Experience with Scrum, SAFe, or similar Agile frameworks.
- Education. Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent retail fuel technology experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of retail technology, POS, product management, or payments experience.
- Direct hands-on POS and payment systems experience
- Vendor/platform experience with providers such as Invenco, Verifone, Gilbarco, NCR Voyix, PDI, or similar.
- Payment processing and compliance knowledge (EMV, PCI DSS, etc.).
- Experience owning vendor relationships and budgets.
- Working knowledge of Conexxus standards and retail fuel technology architectures.
- Experience with cloud-based POS solutions and modern retail technology platforms.
- Experience managing retailer deployments and large-scale technology rollouts across a distributed site network.
- Knowledge of loyalty ecosystems, mobile commerce, digital engagement platforms, and customer-facing technologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining multi-year digital product roadmaps in a regulated environment.
- Product Owner certification (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager certification, or equivalent.
Scope and Accountability
This position carries direct accountability for the following:
- Vendor ownership. Owns the working relationship with POS, forecourt, payment, and site-system vendors - including requirements, statements of work, roadmap alignment, escalation, and performance against commitments.
- Budget. Owns the POS product budget, including forecasting, prioritization of spend against roadmap value, and defense of investment decisions to senior leadership.
- Delivery timelines. Commits and holds delivery dates across multiple concurrent workstreams and delivery teams and is accountable for the schedule outcome rather than for reporting on it.
- Product strategy. Sets the multi-year POS strategy and roadmap and makes the trade-off decisions that follow from it.
- Communication and coordination. Serves as the single point of coordination across business, technology, retailer, vendor, cybersecurity, and compliance organizations, and represents POS product decisions to senior leadership.
Note: This is an individual contributor role with matrixed authority across delivery teams, vendors, and stakeholder organizations. It does not carry direct reports.
