Full-Time Sommelier

Aris | Austin, TX

At Aris, wine is more than a beverage—it is an essential part of the guest experience.
We are seeking a passionate, service-driven Sommelier to join our leadership team. This is an opportunity for a hospitality professional who thrives in an elevated dining environment, possesses deep wine knowledge, and is energized by helping build and refine an exceptional wine program within a growing restaurant. Beyond curating memorable guest experiences, this role is instrumental in developing a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and genuine hospitality.
Our cellar showcases an extensive collection spanning the world's premier wine regions, with particular strength in France, Italy, Spain, Israel, Lebanon, and exceptional New World producers. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable guiding guests toward a rare collector's bottle or introducing them to an unexpected discovery that perfectly complements their meal.
Responsibilities

  • Curate memorable wine experiences through thoughtful recommendations, tableside service, and personalized pairings.
  • Lead the continued development and organization of the wine program through inventory management, purchasing support, cellar maintenance, and thoughtful list evolution.
  • Partner closely with ownership and culinary leadership to enhance the beverage program as the restaurant continues to grow and establish its identity.
  • Train, coach, and mentor the front-of-house team through ongoing wine education, tasting seminars, service standards, and pairing workshops that build both confidence and salesmanship.
  • Foster a culture of hospitality by leading with professionalism, humility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Assist in planning and executing wine dinners, guest winemaker events, featured tastings, and seasonal beverage initiatives.
  • Support daily dining room operations while serving as a visible leader who elevates service standards and inspires the team through example.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of sommelier or advanced wine service experience in an upscale or fine dining restaurant.
  • Strong knowledge of classic and emerging wine regions, varietals, vintages, producers, and production methods.
  • WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent certification required
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to educate, motivate, and develop front-of-house professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing inventory, purchasing, and beverage cost controls.
  • Exceptional guest engagement, emotional intelligence, and communication skills.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability.
What We're Looking For

We're searching for someone who combines technical wine knowledge with warmth, humility, and authentic hospitality. A leader who enjoys teaching others, takes pride in developing people, and is excited by the opportunity to help shape a growing restaurant's culture and reputation. Every bottle tells a story, every recommendation builds trust, and every interaction is an opportunity to create an unforgettable guest experience.
If you're passionate about hospitality, mentorship, and building something exceptional alongside a dedicated team, we'd love to meet you.
