St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master's and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. The University's residential campus boasts a robust living and learning community and a successful intercollegiate athletics program. Fisher is a community where all are welcome, regardless of religious or cultural background.
The University continues to honor its founders, the Congregation of St. Basil, by embracing their motto, "Teach Me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge." We are located in Pittsford, N.Y., seven miles outside of the city of Rochester. The campus is situated on 164 park-like acres-a beautiful setting for a warm, friendly campus community.
The School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the Schools at Fisher, offering degrees in over 20 undergraduate disciplines. The School is home to over 1,000 undergraduate students majoring in the humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, social sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. In addition, the School is primarily responsible for the Core Curriculum, the program of liberal arts courses that all undergraduates take as central to their academic experience. In addition to attending graduate school in any number of disciplines, graduates of the School of Arts and Sciences pursue careers in such fields as marketing, medicine, law, broadcasting, sales, human resource management, advertising and public relations, social work, media relations, information analysis, and scientific research and analysis.

Job Responsibilities
St. John Fisher University invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position in Psychology, beginning fall 2025. We seek candidates holding a Ph.D. (or ABD) in Psychology or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and will be responsible for courses including:
  • Introductory Psychology
  • Psychology Data Science (first-year level)
  • Research Methods
  • Upper-level courses in their specialization (i.e., developmental, pathology, and/or personality)

The successful candidate will:
  • Teach in-person undergraduate courses in their area of specialization.
  • Contribute to major requirements such as research methods, statistics, and introductory psychology courses.
  • Teach courses that align with the university's general education curriculum.
  • Engage students in research and provide mentorship that fosters academic and professional growth.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that reflects the university's commitment to diversity and equity.
  • Collaborate within the department and across disciplines.
Education / Experience
We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in psychology (or a closely related field) by the start date (ABD is acceptable). We are especially seeking faculty interested in teaching introductory psychology and psychology data science for first year and one area of specialization, e.g., cognitive or developmental.
Competencies / Skills
Candidates for this one-year teaching appointment who demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching will be prioritized.
