Job description

Withum’s Tax Services Group is a team of tax specialists working to ensure tax reporting obligations are met accurately and timely, while minimizing or deferring tax payments. Leveraging expertise in international U.S. federal, state, and local regulations and our affiliation with HLB International, we help clients develop cost‑effective tax strategies across a range of services including business, individual, state & local tax, R&D tax credit, and international and private client services.

As a Tax Manager based in our Rochester, NY office, you will lead all aspects of tax engagements, supervise and mentor staff, and build and maintain client relationships, working alongside seasoned CPAs and industry leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Review individual, trust, partnership, and corporate tax returns prepared by tax staff and/or seniors for accuracy.
  • Research and draft memoranda on complex tax matters.
  • Identify and implement tax planning opportunities.
  • Handle and resolve tax controversies.
  • Oversee complete tax research projects for a variety of clients and industries.
  • Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to meet client deadlines.
  • Conduct constructive discussions with team members on evaluations and provide counsel.
  • Serve as instructor or discussion leader in professional development programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA license, JD or Master of Science in Taxation required.
  • At least five years of prior experience in a public accounting tax department, leading multiple engagements and supervising staff.
  • Excellent analytical and technical tax skills.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a fast‑paced, results‑based team environment.
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, and excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project‑management skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Compensation & Benefits

The compensation for this position ranges from $82,500 to $87,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance.
