Job description

The Master Data Management (MDM) Lead is responsible for defining and optimizing the use of enterprise master data, market data and reference data assets by driving improvements to quality, optimizing usage, improving business processes and standardization. The individual is also responsible for working with business units across the firm to implement a consistent process, for all data types or technologies.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Master Data Management Lead has end-to-end responsibility for all MDM initiatives across the enterprise.
1) Core Master Data Management
Define the vision for Master Data Management. Articulate and help demonstrate the business value of Master Data Management to business stakeholders. Establish roles and responsibilities for managing Master Data.
Review and classify inventory of data across the enterprise, and identify core master data and associated hierarchies/taxonomy and lifecycle events.
Review data flow and usage of Master Data to identify risks due to poor data quality and processing inefficiencies. Work with Business Information Owners and Data Stewards to address risks by defining and implementing robust business processes to manage complete lifecycle of Master Data.
Partner with Enterprise Architecture to establish the information architecture strategy and to evaluate and implement appropriate technologies (MDM, SOA, Workflow etc.) in support of this strategy. Develop and refine canonical data models for enterprise integration. Establish and enforce relevant standards and processes.
Partner with the EPMO to ensure project related work is adhering to Data Quality and Data Governance guidelines.
Participate in review of software development project requests to understand potential impact to Master Data.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for Master Data quality, coverage, adoption and timeliness.
2) Market & Reference Data
The MDM lead will serve as the subject matter expert with responsibility for the following activities related to Market & Reference Data:
Inventory management - Actively manage the firm's global inventory of all external market and reference data and their usage within the enterprise.
Market & Reference Data Processes - Define market data change management guidelines and processes to reduce risks associated with delays or source data quality issues.
Technology management - Partner with Enterprise Architecture and other relevant disciplines to ensure efficient and consistent use of external market and reference data. Establish and enforce guidelines for external data profiling, loading, replication, and synchronization. Evaluate requests for market or reference data and ensure alignment with information architecture strategy.
Contract management - Understand external data contract permissions and restrictions, and ensure compliance across the enterprise. Provide feedback regarding potential contract improvements to enable flexibility, efficiency, standardization, and consolidation.
Vendor management - Partner with external data vendors to improve data quality, formats, structures, and timeliness. Assist in contract negotiation by providing subject matter expertise regarding market and reference data providers and their capabilities. Evaluate impact of changing external data providers or sources and coordinate associated transformation programs when required.
Cost management - Look for ways to potentially reduce data procurement costs by consolidating external data contracts or providers, and optimizing usage.
3) Assume additional responsibilities as requested
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Deep knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) and SOA (Web Services, Message Oriented Middleware, Enterprise Service Bus etc.) principles, processes, architectures, protocols, patterns, and technologies.
Extensive experience with market and reference data in the context of capital markets or investment management.
Leadership and team management experience with ability to provide strategic planning and oversight.
Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, data quality management and data governance principles.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to negotiate and influence critical decisions.
Bachelor's degree required.
10+ years relevant experience.
