Marketing Proofreader information

What does a marketing proofreader do?

A Marketing Proofreader reviews and edits marketing materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines. They check for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting errors in content such as advertisements, emails, brochures, and social media posts. Their role is essential in maintaining a professional image for the company and ensuring that all marketing communications are clear and error-free. Additionally, they may collaborate with writers, designers, and marketing managers to clarify messaging and improve overall quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a marketing proofreader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Marketing Proofreader, you need exceptional grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills along with a keen eye for detail, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with style guides (such as AP or Chicago), content management systems, and proofreading tools like Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Word's track changes feature is typically required. Strong organizational skills, time management, and effective communication help you collaborate with marketing teams and handle multiple deadlines. These competencies ensure marketing materials are accurate, consistent, and professional, protecting brand reputation and enhancing campaign effectiveness.

How does a marketing proofreader typically collaborate with content creators and designers?

As a Marketing Proofreader, you’ll work closely with content writers, graphic designers, and marketing managers to ensure all messaging is clear, accurate, and on-brand. You may review copy drafts, provide feedback on tone and grammar, and check for consistency across various marketing materials. Collaboration often involves participating in project meetings, using document management tools to track revisions, and communicating directly with team members to clarify messaging or resolve ambiguities. This role requires both attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to maintain a smooth workflow and uphold quality standards.

Job description

Marketing Proofreader

W2 Contract 6 Months

Onsite, Tustin, CA

$26/hr + Benefits

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-obsessed Proofreader to help ensure every piece of content our customers see is accurate, polished, consistent, and easy to understand.

Supporting four consumer brands, you’ll review a wide variety of content across digital and print channels, including product packaging, user manuals, recipe books, websites, apps, blogs, paid advertising, social media, video assets, and more.

As part of our Copy & Editorial team, you’ll work closely with Copywriters, Technical Writers, and Copy Editors to maintain editorial standards, protect each brand’s distinct voice, and ensure content is ready for publication.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who loves language, catches the details others miss, and enjoys working across both creative marketing content and technical/product-focused copy in a fast-moving consumer brand environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Proofread and review a broad range of consumer-facing content, including product listings, website copy, emails, blogs, paid ads, social media, video scripts, user manuals, packaging, recipe books, and other print and digital assets
  • Identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, formatting, and word usage
  • Ensure consistency in style, tone, terminology, formatting, and brand voice across content
  • Review content against VeSync’s editorial and brand style guidelines
  • Verify facts, figures, product details, dates, and other information for accuracy
  • Partner with Copywriters, Technical Writers, Copy Editors, designers, and other stakeholders to resolve inconsistencies or clarify ambiguous content
  • Help ensure content is clear and intuitive for consumers, identifying issues that could negatively affect readability or usability
  • Support the development and refinement of editorial standards, content policies, and proofreading processes
  • Ensure published materials follow applicable copyright and ethical guidelines
  • Manage multiple high-priority projects while maintaining exceptional accuracy and meeting tight deadlines
  • Support additional editorial and content initiatives as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
  • Professional proofreading, editing, or editorial experience, ideally within a marketing, advertising, consumer brand, or content environment
  • Exceptional command of the English language, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills with an exceptional eye for detail
  • Ability to comfortably move between creative marketing copy and technical/product content
  • Experience reviewing content across both digital and print channels
  • Familiarity with professional style guides such as the AP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and consistency while working quickly across multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with consumer products, consumer electronics, home appliances, apps, or smart/connected devices
  • Experience proofreading e-commerce or product-detail-page content
  • Exposure to technical writing, product documentation, or user manuals
  • Experience working across multiple brands or distinct brand voices
