Job description

Development AssociateHelp Build a Stronger Community. Help Change Lives.

At the YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County, we believe every donation, every event, every volunteer, and every community connection has the power to change someone's life.

We're looking for an organized, energetic, and people-oriented Development Associate to join our team. If you're someone who enjoys building relationships, coordinating events, staying organized, creating professional marketing materials, and being part of meaningful work that strengthens our community, we'd love to meet you.

This is more than an administrative position—it's an opportunity to become an integral part of our fundraising and community engagement efforts while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit development, donor relations, event management, and marketing.

Whether you're looking to grow your nonprofit career or see yourself moving into marketing, communications, fundraising, or community engagement in the future, this role provides an outstanding foundation with opportunities for professional growth and expanded responsibilities over time.

What You'll Do

Every day is different, but your work will directly support the mission of the YWCA by helping secure the resources that make our programs possible.

You'll:

  • Support the Head of Development in planning and executing fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities.
  • Process donations and maintain accurate donor records.
  • Prepare donor acknowledgements and stewardship communications.
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, grants, and donor outreach.
  • Coordinate volunteers supporting the Development Department.
  • Help organize fundraising events from planning through execution.
  • Represent the YWCA at community events and outreach opportunities.
  • Create flyers, invitations, brochures, presentations, and other promotional materials using Canva.
  • Coordinate departmental projects, schedules, communications, and administrative activities.
  • Run occasional business-related errands and assist with event logistics.
  • Help ensure every donor, volunteer, and community partner has an exceptional experience with the YWCA.
What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Friendly, professional, and comfortable communicating with people by phone, email, and in person.
  • Tech-savvy and proficient with Microsoft Word, basic Excel, and Canva.
  • Able to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to jump in wherever needed.
  • Passionate about serving the community and supporting a mission-driven organization.

Experience in fundraising, event planning, nonprofit administration, marketing, communications, or customer service is helpful—but equally important is a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a desire to learn and grow.

Event planning or event management experience is highly preferred.

Why You'll Love Working Here

When you join the YWCA, you're joining a team that's passionate about making a difference—not only for our community, but for one another.

We offer a competitive and comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Approximately 30 days of paid time off annually, including vacation, personal time, sick leave, and holidays
  • Pension plan with an annual employer contribution equal to 7% of your salary after two years of eligible employment
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Quarterly employee engagement events
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • A collaborative, mission-driven workplace where your work truly matters
Additional Requirements
  • Full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt position
  • On-site position based in Binghamton, NY
  • Valid New York State driver's license required
  • Reliable personal vehicle available for local business travel and errands
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for fundraising and community events
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Compensation

Hourly Rate Range: $19.00 - $21.00
