DESCRIPTION
Hi-Rise Bread Co. is hiring a Farmers Market Manager for the 2025 market season! The Farmers' Market Manager oversees and ensures the successful operation of markets throughout Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and the surrounding suburbs. Working in both an administrative capacity and at markets themselves, the Farmers Market Manager leads a team of market workers who collectively operate 8-9 markets weekly. The Farmers Market Manager is a full-time, salaried, seasonal position, running 28-30 weeks from early May through Thanksgiving.
Job responsibilities:
  • Work at least 3-5 market shifts per week, including all aspects of market work: pre-market prep, driving, setup, market work, breakdown, and return to bakery

  • Identify and train an assistant manager who can work at markets and perform necessary administrative functions as needed
  • Participate in the design decisions of each market's physical layout
  • Determine the appropriate product mix for each market, use sales data to inform weekly product orders, and maintain inventories as needed
  • Ensure that the markets are appropriately outfitted, including but not limited to: physical equipment (cash box, tent, tables, displays, tablets, coolers, etc.), packaging (bags, labels, product name tags, etc.), and marketing materials (print collateral, product talkers, etc.)
  • Maintain and manage POS databases for market use
  • Propose new product ideas and/or formats to the management team
  • Participate in meetings with the management team about financials, products, staffing, etc.

REQUIREMENTS
  • A passion for Hi-Rise's products and for the value of farmers' markets and the community of market vendors
  • At least one season of market work at a farm or food service vendor, ideally in a supervisory role
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to safely and comfortably operate market vans
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including one-person market tent setup and other associated lifting
  • An eagerness to work outside in all weather conditions
  • The ability to commit to a full market season from early May through Thanksgiving

Hi-Rise opened in 1996 with a crew of six, big ideas, and a simple goal: to make staple foods better than home-made. Hi-Rise started with bread - using organic wheat, rye, and corn from independent mills - and soon moved to pastries, incorporating extra-rich European-style butter and local fruits for pies and tarts. Naturally, soups and sandwiches came next utilizing the same philosophy of house made and hand selected ingredients. The trend continued over the years and now Hi-Rise has a long list of products made daily including breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, granola, and preserves. Along with a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads, Hi-Rise offers dinners sold fresh and frozen, from pot pies and stews to lasagnas with house-made pasta as well as a curated list of wine and spirits. Using carefully-sourced ingredients and making everything from scratch, Hi-Rise is committed to producing the highest quality baked goods in a comfortable neighborhood setting.
