What is market access?

Market access refers to the process and strategies involved in ensuring that healthcare products, such as pharmaceuticals or medical devices, are available and reimbursed in a given market. Professionals in market access work to demonstrate the value of these products to payers, regulatory bodies, and healthcare providers, ensuring that patients can obtain them. This often involves health economics, pricing strategies, and navigating regulatory requirements. The goal is to balance patient access with commercial success for the company.

What are the typical challenges faced by market access professionals when working with cross-functional teams?

Market Access professionals often collaborate closely with teams such as regulatory affairs, medical affairs, and commercial departments. A common challenge is aligning priorities and timelines across these groups, especially when balancing compliance requirements with market needs. Effective communication and a strong understanding of both clinical data and payer perspectives are crucial for navigating these complexities. Building strong relationships and maintaining transparency can help Market Access professionals drive successful product launches and reimbursement strategies.

Does market access pay well?

Market access professionals typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and industry sector. Entry-level roles may start around $60,000 annually, while experienced specialists can earn over $120,000, especially with advanced certifications and skills in health economics or regulatory affairs.

What does a market access team do?

A market access team is responsible for developing strategies to ensure that healthcare products, such as medications or medical devices, are available and reimbursed within healthcare systems. They analyze regulatory requirements, collaborate with payers and stakeholders, and support pricing and reimbursement processes to facilitate product market entry and patient access.

How will you make an impact at Envision Pharma Group?

  • Oversee compelling proposals, SOWs and contract negotiations.

Engagement Delivery & Advisory
  • Lead the design and delivery of engagements across:
    • Market access and payer strategy
    • Pricing and reimbursement
    • HEOR and evidence generation
    • Value communication and access optimisation
    • Launch planning and readiness
  • Act as senior advisor on key programmes, providing clear viewpoints on payer landscapes, reimbursement pathways, lifecycle access and commercial models.

People Leadership & Capability Building
  • Build, lead and inspire a high-performing consulting team.
  • Attract top talent, set clear expectations and manage performance to consistently high standards.

Collaboration & Integrated Solutions
  • Partner closely with other Riparian and Envision business units to design and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Champion cross-sell and up-sell opportunities, ensuring market access perspectives are embedded across wider client programmes.

Analytical & Methodological Rigor
  • Lead interpretation of primary/secondary research, RWD and HEOR outputs to generate sharp, actionable insights.
  • Ensure robust analytics are used to track market access KPIs and inform real-time strategy adjustments.
  • Oversee development of payer-facing materials (e.g. value stories, PIE decks, AMCP dossiers, budget impact tools) to support effective payer/provider engagement and drive repeat business.

Do you have what we are looking for?
Skills & expertise
  • Senior leader with 15+ years in consulting and/or life sciences, including at least 10 years in market access, pricing & reimbursement, payer strategy or commercial access.
  • Proven track record of building, growing or leading a consulting practice or business unit in the life sciences sector.
