Job description

Marine Technician

Location: Chapin, South Carolina

Position: Full-Time, On-Site

Company Description

Marine 360 is a full sales and service boat dealership located in Chapin, South Carolina, providing boat sales, service, repair, and rigging to recreational boaters throughout the region.

Our service department primarily works on modern boats powered by 4-stroke outboards, with a focus on Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki engines, generally 10 years old or newer. We take pride in quality workmanship, accurate diagnostics, and getting repairs done right the first time.

We are looking for a dependable Marine Technician who wants to join a growing dealership and be part of a professional, team-oriented service department.

Position Description

Marine 360 is seeking a Marine Technician to perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations on boats and 4-stroke outboard engines.

The ideal candidate will have previous marine technician or mechanical experience and be comfortable diagnosing both mechanical and electrical issues. Yamaha, Mercury, or Suzuki factory certification is preferred but not required. We are willing to consider candidates with strong mechanical ability and relevant experience who are interested in continuing to develop their marine technical skills.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine service and preventative maintenance on 4-stroke outboard engines.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, fuel, cooling, electrical, and engine-related issues.
  • Work primarily with Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki outboards, generally 10 years old or newer.
  • Use manufacturer diagnostic software, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins to troubleshoot problems.
  • Perform engine services, water pump replacements, fuel system repairs, electrical repairs, and other general outboard repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair 12V marine electrical systems, batteries, switches, pumps, wiring, and related components.
  • Install and rig new outboard engines, controls, gauges, batteries, electronics, and other boat accessories.
  • Perform new-boat setup, inspections, and installation work.
  • Conduct water tests when necessary to diagnose problems or verify completed repairs.
  • Accurately document work performed, parts used, diagnostic findings, and recommended repairs.
  • Communicate with the Service Advisor and other team members regarding repair status and additional work needed.
  • Follow manufacturer procedures and dealership safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Properly care for customer boats, dealership inventory, tools, and equipment.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience working on boats, outboard engines, automotive systems, powersports, or other mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Yamaha, Mercury, or Suzuki 4-stroke outboards is highly preferred.
  • Factory certification from Yamaha, Mercury, or Suzuki is preferred but not required.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of 12V electrical systems and electrical diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, service manuals, and manufacturer technical information.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and electrical testing equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning well as part of a service team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Ability to safely lift and move equipment and perform physical work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can troubleshoot problems instead of simply replacing parts, and understands the importance of doing the job correctly.

An experienced, factory-certified marine technician would be a great fit, but certification is not a requirement. We are also interested in technicians with a strong mechanical background who have the ability and desire to continue learning Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki outboard systems. Marine 360 pays for Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki schooling for all technicians.
