Job description

Bob Hewes Boats is a fourth-generation, family-run dealership serving South Florida boaters since 1926. With nearly a century of experience and a reputation for quality and customer care, we are proud to offer a supportive, team-oriented work environment. We are currently looking for an experienced Yamaha Outboard Marine Technician to join our service department.
Position Summary:
As a Marine Technician, you’ll play a key role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Yamaha outboard engines and related systems. The ideal candidate will have Yamaha certification, a solid understanding of 12V marine systems, and experience with rigging and diagnostics. We’re looking for a dependable, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in their work and values continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair Yamaha outboard engines (Mercury experience is a plus)
Perform routine maintenance, tune-ups, and inspections
Mount and rig outboards on new and used boats across all major brands
Install and service 12V electrical systems and accessories
Use Yamaha diagnostic software and tools efficiently
Install and repair hydraulic steering systems
Maintain inventory of parts and materials used
Provide accurate labor/time estimates for repair jobs
Water test and inspect boats to verify performance and repairs
Stay up to date with factory training and certifications
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Interact professionally with customers and team members
Qualifications:
Yamaha experience required
Mercury engine knowledge is a strong plus
Proficient with diagnostic tools and software
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Must have your own tools
Comfortable working outdoors in a marine environment (at a marina)
Professional communication skills and a customer-first attitude
Computer literacy for service documentation
Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
