Job description

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for aTesting Technician IIIto join our Marine team in Bridgeport AL. In this role, you will support the Marine Test & Validation Center by preparing, instrumenting, operating, monitoring, and evaluating marine engines, propulsion systems, controls, test cell equipment, and related test articles inworld classfacility-based engine test environments. This role combines hands-on mechanical and electrical technical expertise, safe test cell operation, accurate data collection, clear reporting, troubleshooting, and strong attention to detail to help validate product performance, durability, reliability, and quality. The position offers the opportunity to work directly with advanced Yamaha marine products, specialized test cell systems, PLC-based controls, data acquisition equipment, and cross-functional engineering, testing, service, sales, and marketing teams.

What you'll be doing:

  • Performsupervisedtest celltesting and evaluationof marine engines,propulsion systems, controls,instrumentation,andrelatedtest articles. Collect,organize, review, and summarizetestdata;prepareclearwrittentestreportsand support timely completion of assignedtestschedules.
  • Prepareengines, components, andrelatedtest articlesfortestingby installing instrumentation anddata acquisitionequipmentsuch asthermocouples, pressure transducers, strain gauges,sensors, wiring, and related measurement systems; installengines, components, and supportsystems into test cells.
  • Assist with routine repair, maintenance, inspection, readiness, calibration, and improvement of test cells, sensors, monitoring devices, data acquisition systems, shop equipment, buildings, grounds, and related facility assets. Monitor commonly used supplies and communicate replenishment needs to support uninterrupted testing operations.
  • Develop, modify,verify,and execute safe test profiles using Allen-Bradley PLC-based test cell controls or similar automation systems. Troubleshootcontrols, instrumentation,data acquisition, mechanical, and electricalsystem issues to minimize downtime and maintain test quality.
  • Maintain asafe,clean, organized, and professionalwork environment across test cells,shops, storageareas,buildings,grounds, docks, and related facility spaces.
  • Protect the confidentiality of test plans, products, results, data, photos, conversations, and development activities in accordance with company expectations.
  • Supportsales,marketing,service, engineering, andcustomer-facing activitiesas needed by preparing test properties, assisting witheventsetup andcleanup, supportingsafeproduct demonstrations, and helping return equipment and spaces to ready condition.
  • Assist with on-water, shop-based, field, and off-site testing activities when needed, including preparation, setup, data collection, troubleshooting support, and post-test teardown.
  • Assistwith shipping activities by preparing, protecting,andpacking engines, components,and partsfor shipment; provide accurate shipmentdetailstotheappropriateteam membersfor processing.
  • Assist with receiving activities by unloading freight, inspecting incoming items as appropriate, and providing billsoflading or receiving documentation to the appropriate staff.

What you need to be successful:

  • High school diplomaor equivalentrequired; technicaltraining,relevant college degree, or equivalent hands-onmechanical, electrical, marine,engine, diagnostic, or test cell experiencepreferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including internal combustion engines, marine propulsion systems, dynamometers,test cell equipment,or powertrain testsystems.
  • Experience with test cell operations, automation, and PLC-based control systems; experience with AVL and Allen-Bradley systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with calibration, instrumentation, and data acquisition tools such as ETAS INCA, MMD8, NIRA,DEWESoft, or similar systems.
  • Minimum of5years of experience in engine development, dynamometer testing,test cell operations, powertrain testing,orclosely related technicalwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause, analyze data, and resolve mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation, or facility support systemissues efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe tools, and basic computer-based diagnostic, calibration, or data acquisition systems.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts, trucks, trailers, hoists, cranes, and related shop or test facility equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail when collectingengineering data, documentingtest conditions, reviewing results, identifying issues, and communicatingfindings.
  • Requires up to 15% travel for field testing, off-site support, events, training, or related business needs
  • Must follow all safety rules, environmental expectations, and company procedures, including safe operation of test cells, vehicles, tools, equipment, and facility systems.
