Job description

Description:

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating day-to-day production activities within the manufacturing environment. This role serves as the primary frontline leader for the production floor and is accountable for ensuring operators and production support personnel execute work in compliance with work orders, customer requirements, quality standards, and the production schedule.

The Operations Supervisor oversees the flow of parts through manufacturing operations, quality inspection, secondary processing, and shipping activities. This position is responsible for monitoring work order execution, supporting production scheduling, allocating labor resources, and ensuring effective coordination between departments. The Operations Supervisor works closely with plant leadership to maintain process discipline, achieve production targets, reduce bottlenecks, and support efficient operations from raw material receipt through shipment of finished products.



Production Floor Supervision
  • Supervise approximately 30 operators across pressing, quality support, secondary processing, and shipping functions.
  • Ensure adherence to work instructions, setup procedures, and standard operating procedures across all production areas.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to resolve production issues and maintain workflow.
  • Assign labor and equipment resources to support daily production requirements.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate production priorities and expectations to employees throughout the shift.
Work Order & Production Coordination
  • Support the release, sequencing, and prioritization of work orders to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate daily production activities in accordance with established production schedules.
  • Communicate scheduling concerns related to material shortages, equipment downtime, quality issues, or expedited customer requirements.
  • Ensure accurate completion of work order documentation and labor reporting within the ERP system.
  • Work closely with Production Control, Quality, Maintenance, and Shipping departments to support production goals.
Material Flow & Throughput
  • Monitor the movement of materials and products through production, inspection, secondary processing, and shipping.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and escalate issues impacting throughput or delivery performance.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance to facilitate efficient processing of in-process inspections.
  • Support Shipping activities to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Track daily production output and communicate performance results to management.
Operational Discipline & Continuous Improvement
  • Promote compliance with standard work practices, safety requirements, 5S principles, and housekeeping standards.
  • Assist in investigating production delays, downtime events, quality concerns, and schedule disruptions.
  • Support employee training and cross-training initiatives to improve workforce flexibility.
  • Recommend process improvements and corrective actions to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Escalate significant operational issues to plant leadership as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support continuous improvement, safety initiatives, audits, and special projects as directed.
Requirements:

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Required education: Associate degree preferred. Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Required experience: Minimum 3-5 years in manufacturing operations leadership, preferably in metal stamping, deep draw, or high-volume production environments.
  • Required proficiencies: Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, ERP/MRP systems, work order management, production scheduling, labor reporting, and shop floor metrics.
  • Required attributes: Assertive leadership style, high accountability standards, strong organizational skills, and ability to enforce compliance consistently.


Work Environment:

This position involves working both in office and within the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It is critical that the Operations Manager maintain situational awareness while actively engaging on the production floor to monitor operations and ensure schedule adherence.
