Job description

Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is a skilled and detail-oriented engineer with expertise in multi-axis CNC machining, geometric tolerancing, and material properties. This role requires strong technical acumen, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. The Manufacturing Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that processes are designed and products are manufactured with efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness in mind.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate new customer product designs with a "design for manufacturing" approach to identify opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction
  • Develop and present detailed improvement proposals, including solid model presentations, to customer engineering teams for Engineering Change Notice (ECN) approval.
  • Create comprehensive factory production plans, including step-by-step operation sheets, detailed work instructions, manufacturing prints, outsource prints, flat patterns, and other documents as needed.
  • Develop bills of materials (BOM) for all components and materials required for production.
  • Create and review traveler packages and customer drawings for completeness and manufacturability.
  • Design and implement necessary fixturing to support production processes
  • Provide on-demand support to production teams in resolving manufacturing challenges as they arise.
  • Monitor manufacturing progress and ensure alignment with established plans.
  • Serve as a key liaison with production and programming teams to address design or production-related issues.
  • Independently design, develop, and fabricate fixtures and production aids as needed.
  • Diagnose, repair, and rebuild equipment and instruments as necessary.
  • Recommend budget allocations for shop equipment and supplies; estimate labor and material costs for projects.
  • Stay informed of advancements in manufacturing engineering and related scientific fields through continuous professional development
  • Evaluate current shop functions and recommend improvements to optimize future operations.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and files to support shop activities and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Prepare instruction manuals, operation guides, performance specifications, and documentation for professional publications or patent applications.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support organizational goals.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design fundamentals.
  • In-depth knowledge of material properties, including familiarity with metals and alloys used in instrument construction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial).
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a Manufacturing or Process Engineering role.
  • Experience with specifications and standards in the aerospace and semiconductor industries, including but not limited to AS9100, ISO9001, & Copy Exact (Locked Processes)
  • Experience with and trained in Lean methodologies, including but not limited to; 6S, SMED, VSM, Visual Management / Visual Factory, Problem Solving (A3), Standard Work, Mistake-Proofing, and TPM.
  • Hands on experience with machining processes, preferably with multi-axis milling and turning.
  • Experience using ERP and MES software, preferably Infor10 ERP (Syteline) and ShopVue.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with strong MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
