Job Description Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialist, Gears & Shafts Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 office days a week) Working Location: Indianapolis, IN As the Manufacturing Engineering Technical Specialist for Machining, you will have the opportunity to use your ideas to help shape the future for Rolls-Royce North America's external supply chain gear and shaft manufacturing. You will lead all technical aspects of the gear and shaft external supply chain manufacturing activities in both development and production with accountability to ensure quality, cost, and delivery requirements are met. You will be instrumental in ensuring technical and procedural processes and organizations are ready for industrialization. The technical specialist will be recognized as an authoritative source of gear and shaft manufacturing technical expertise and advice in the North American external supply chain and viewed as a key member of the broader team of technical expertise by senior capability leadership.   • Lead a cross-functional team, with manufacturing emphasis, to achieve program objectives and deliver products to the customer at the right time, cost, quality and responsiveness
  • Provide gear and shaft manufacturing input to design engineering to assure component designs are producible & facilitate design for manufacture supplier events
  • Lead & represent manufacturing perspective regarding sourcing strategy
  • Develop & conduct supplier manufacturing readiness and technical risk assessments
  • Provide support to supplier with quality requirements (fixed process, FAIR, PPAP, SABRe)
  • Perform supplier hardware delivery source inspections
  • Create the environment for continuous improvement with the emphasis on sharing and searching for best practice

  • Associate degree with 7+ years of Operations, Manufacturing, Quality or Purchasing experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of Operations, Manufacturing, Quality or Purchasing experience, OR
  • Master's degree with 3+ years of Operations, Manufacturing, Quality or Purchasing experience, OR
  • PhD, OR
  • 9+ years of Operations, Manufacturing, Quality or Purchasing experience in lieu of a degree
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of gear, spline and shaft manufacturing processes, special processes related to gears and splines, and inspection techniques, including analytical gear chart interpretation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to gear and spline manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with industry gear and spline specifications. I.e. ISO, AGMA, ANSI
  • Strong understanding of product industrialization, APQP/PPAP, and FAIR
  • Experience of operating within a global volume manufacturing environment and with teaching & mentoring gear and shaft manufacturing processes/inspection operations
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
