Job description

Title: Manufacturing Cost Analyst


Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Cost Analyst supports the Operations team by ensuring accurate labor reporting, job costing, and ERP data withing the M2M system. This role is responsible for reviewing labor postings, investigating variances, maintaining routing accuracy, and supporting integrity of shop floor data collection.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Labor Accuracy and Job Costing:


  • Review labor and quantity postings on a daily, weekly, monthly basis for accuracy. Enter or correct labor and quantity posting mistakes when needed.
  • Review routers for rate accuracy and collaborate with engineering to get routers updated as needed.
  • Perform time studies and suggest router updates to engineering as needed.
  • Track, analyze, and report labor posting variances by production.
  • Report out on various labor accuracy metrics on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
  • Support in the training of operations personnel for successful labor entry on jobs.
  • Prepare periodic job order variances reporting and assist with variance review.
  • update item Master in M2M system as necessary.
  • Review labor entries on M2M and update routers where required.
  • Investigate labor reporting errors and posting discrepancies.
  • Perform various inventory transactions in the M2M system.
  • Support periodic review of gross profit performance by item number and identify top profit and loss drivers.)
  • Identify significant labor variances and partner with operations leadership to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to navigate Job Costing/Inventory Control System (M2M preferred)
  • Ability to work with operators and supervisors on the floor.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Strong Excel skills are crucial.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with management and personnel are necessary.
  • Be neat and detail oriented.
  • An affinity for numbers is vital.
  • Ability to analyze labor variances and production cost drivers.

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or Engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing routing structures, labor standards, and ERP systems.
  • Experience with job costing, inventory control, and production reporting.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with manufacturing shop floor data collection systems preferred.


Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Some domestic and international travel might be required.
