Job Summary
The Manatee Village Historical Park (MVHP) is a living museum that tells the history of our community's settlers. Through its collection of restored buildings from Manatee County's settlement history and educational programming, MVHP offers visitors the ability to experience life in Manatee County before the arrival of modern conveniences such as automobiles and electricity. The Event & Marketing Coordinator position is a full-time, non-supervisory position reporting to the Supervisor of the Manatee Village Historical Park. This position serves a critical role in reserving and overseeing private rentals, developing and implementing public programming, and leading marketing efforts for Manatee Village Historical Park.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, History, Communications, Marketing or related field
  • One year of recent and relevant events planning and events management experience
  • Computer literacy which includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in Microsoft Windows Suite
  • One year of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of data, preferably in an automated systems environment
  • Basic mathematical aptitude, as well as alpha and numeric filing skills required
  • Proficient in web and graphic design
  • Proficient in promotional photography, audio/video recording and editing
  • Working knowledge of current marketing principles and proficient in use of social media
  • Ability to develop and manage projects and events
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job, including weekends and occasional evenings

Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements, and/or maintains branding in coordination with the Supervisor
  • Markets and promotes the historic site through website design and maintenance, social media, press releases, flyers, media interviews, etc.
  • Monitors social media accounts and applies current organizational policy
  • Plans, schedules, orchestrates and evaluates all public programming, including but not limited to workshops, classes, festivals, lectures and exhibit openings both onsite and offsite
  • Responds to all private rental and other inquiries in a timely manner
  • Reserves and oversees private rentals and scheduling of event security
  • Handles collection of fees and distribution of funds after the event
  • Communicates with maintenance technician to ensure grounds are prepared for rental
  • Ensures buildings and site are prepared for rental and events (cleaning, moving furniture, etc.)
  • Assists with all aspects of educational programming and visitor experience
  • Assists with all operations of facility, including emergency preparedness and ongoing custodial duties
  • Provides excellent customer service to all in person, in email, and over the phone; is approachable, helpful, and personable; answers questions knowledgeably and with patience
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Enforces museum policies in a firm but friendly manner
  • Create, implement and evaluate museum activities with assistance from other staff
