Under the general direction of the Supervisor (SUP) II in BCIA's Criminal Record Expedite & Support Program (CRESP), the SUP I plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Section; develops plans and strategies for improvements to current processing technologies; represents the Bureau in meetings with local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies regarding applicant or criminal issues; meets with vendors and Division information technology personnel regarding program automation issues; sets work priorities; and reviews legislation and its impact to the program.
The SUP I provides direct project management and oversight of the day-to-day operations; is responsible for ensuring consistency within the program in regard to employee training, staff interaction, and work assignments; develops and documents program policies and procedures; formulates and presents policy recommendations to executive management regarding technical and personnel issues; and identifies and makes policy/process recommendations regarding overlapping business processes among bureau and division programs.
Supervising a team of professional staff, technicians, specialists, and analysts, the SUP I will lead efforts to streamline workflows, improve communication, and improve process efficiencies. The SUP I is expected to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, analyze sensitive and complex issues, conduct high-level analysis, make critical decisions, and provide input to internal and external stakeholders at various levels of organizations. The SUP I will lead projects, the analysis and implementation of legislation, requests for data, and direct outreach and training efforts.
This position functions with independence and plays a critical role in both bureau and division policy decisions, handling operational and administrative issues, and leading program staff.

Working Conditions
This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.
This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
