What You'll Do:

As an Engineering Manager for Payments - Subscriptions, you will direct the strategy and implementation for Roblox's suite of subscription offerings. In this critical role, you will directly influence key business metrics and help define how our most dedicated global users engage with our platform. You will be working directly with a number of cross-functional partners from Product, Design, Data Science teams, influencing our business and annual recurring revenue growth direction. Your team will own mission-critical systems across key areas, including:

  • Subscription Value Proposition: Collaborating with Product to define the roadmap for subscriptions on Roblox, building innovative features, and partnering across teams to deliver maximum value to our subscriber community.
  • Subscription Billing: Leading full lifecycle management and feature execution for recurring billing, delivering a seamless purchasing, upgrade, and subscription management experience across all platforms.
  • Subscribers Growth & Retention: Executing key initiatives to expand the subscriber user base while strengthening long-term user retention.
  • Operational Observability: Developing comprehensive telemetry, monitoring, and dashboards to surface real-time insights into system health, success metrics, latency, and operational performance across all channels.

You will:

  • Manage Team Execution & Delivery: Oversee the daily execution of the engineering roadmap, ensuring the team efficiently delivers high-quality, reliable code on time.
  • Drive Operational Excellence & Health: Maintain the 24/7 health and stability of mission-critical payment systems, leading on-call rotations, incident response, and driving post-mortem analysis to continuously improve system reliability and reduce transaction errors.
  • Lead Technical Design & Code Review: Provide hands-on guidance on complex technical designs, architecture proposals, and perform thorough code reviews to maintain high standards for security, performance, and scalability across the payments stack.
  • Ensure Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary engineering liaison, collaborating closely with Product Management, Design, Risk, Legal/Compliance teams to align on requirements, prioritize features, and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Define Architectural Strategy: Set the long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for the team and underlying services to support millions of subscribers globally.
  • Grow and cultivate an Impactful Team: Attract, hire, mentor, and coach top-tier software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous learning within the Subscriptions Pod.

You have: 

  • Leadership and Tech Experience: 
    • 8+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with a focus on building and operating highly scalable distributed systems.
    • 2+ years of direct experience managing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and drive technical vision and roadmap for mission-critical, high-volume services.
  • A strong track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineering talent.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical trade-offs and project status to technical peers, product managers, and executive leadership.
  • Familiarity with billing products and payments processing.
