Job description

POSITION TITLE: Meat and Seafood Purchasing Specialist
PURPOSE: As a buyer of meat, poultry and seafood, you will be a member of Martin Produce Inc.’s Food Procurement team and play a role in identifying suppliers supporting critical categories for the business. You will deliver value to the organization by facilitating the strategic sourcing process, establishing and maintaining relationships with our external suppliers.

DEPARTMENT: Purchasing

REPORTS TO: Sales Manager

PAYRATE: $70,000, plus 5-15% bonus annually
This role includes an annual performance bonus opportunity of up to 15%, tied directly to shrink control, cost savings, and service performance.

HOURS/SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday-Friday

DRESS CODE: Business Casual

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain assigned inventory levels for resale while ensuring satisfactory turnover and code dates
  • Process purchasing orders in timely manner
  • Clear any costing discrepancies between the received PO’s and vendor invoice.
  • Interact with Warehouse and Receiving teams to stay up to date with condition and quantity of inventory.
  • Negotiate terms of purchase with vendors as appropriate, i.e. delivery time, payment terms, freight terms
  • Expedite critical purchases
  • Manage timelines, costs, and logistics to ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-spec delivery pf goods
  • Create and issue purchase orders based on approved requests, reorder requirements, distribution needs and management direction
  • Maintain accurate purchase order information in the Entrée system
  • Perform daily cooler walkthrough for quality inspections
  • Responsible for quality assurance checks on inbound product deliveries from vendors as necessary
  • Build and strengthen relationships internally, as well as within the vendor and the customer communities
  • Maintain communication lines with sales team to trouble-shoot quality issues, promote and push the sale of products to increase sales and minimize spoilage
  • Study market trends, interview vendors and recommend sources of supply
  • Responsible for necessary follow-through on product price changes and allowances
  • Must be able to work independently and take direction from manager
  • Support the procurement of additional product categories as needed to meet business demands and ensure continuity of supply
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or operations management, finance, or related field. Candidates with equivalent related experience will be considered instead of a degree.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills, as well as interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • 2+ years of experience un supply chain, procurement, and related business functions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, support requests from, and interact directly across all levels of the organization.
  • Have strong analytical, planning, and execution skills, including exceptional attention to detail.
  • Able to effectively negotiate and influence business decisions and change.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and have an understanding of source-to-pay tools.
