Job description

Description
The Business Development Manager serves as the primary representative of the Sunbelt Solomon Rental team and plays a critical role in driving revenue growth through business development, customer relationship management, and rental opportunity generation. Through proactive sales activities, the BDM is responsible for identifying new prospects, converting leads into customers, and developing opportunities that contribute to the growth of the rental business. While each BDM is assigned to a specific territory and customer base, all team members are expected to support broader company initiatives and assist across all US territories as business needs require.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, customer-focused sales professional with a strong technical foundation and a passion for developing new business. This individual thrives in a relationship-driven environment, is comfortable operating independently, and possesses the initiative, resilience, and strategic mindset necessary to drive growth in a competitive and fast-paced temporary power market
Business Development & Account Growth
  • Drive new business development efforts and expand existing customer relationships to generate rental opportunities and increase market share.

  • Maintain a strong focus on pipeline development, dedicating approximately 75-80% of time to prospecting, relationship building, account management, and opportunity generation.

  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new rental opportunities through networking, customer visits, referrals, industry events, and strategic outreach.

Project Development & Execution Support
  • Partner with the Project Management team to support the development, negotiation, closure, and execution of rental projects.

  • Allocate approximately 20-25% of time to supporting project-related activities that contribute to successful customer outcomes and revenue realization.

Customer Engagement & Responsiveness
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary customer contact throughout the sales cycle.

  • Maintain a high level of responsiveness to customer needs, including after-hours inquiries when necessary.

  • Remain available outside standard business hours, except during approved time off, to support the operational demands of the temporary power industry.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Planning
  • Continuously monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and market conditions within the temporary power sector.

  • Gather and communicate market intelligence to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives.

  • Collaborate with leadership and the Major Projects team to develop and execute annual sales plans, adjusting strategies as market conditions evolve.

CRM Management & Sales Documentation
  • Maintain accurate and timely records within the CRM system, including customer accounts, contacts, opportunities, activities, and sales forecasts.

  • Document customer interactions, including phone calls, meetings, site visits, and sales presentations, to ensure visibility and accountability throughout the sales process.

Product Knowledge & Cross-Selling
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of Sunbelt Solomon's equipment offerings, services, and solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships through cross-selling and value-added service offerings.

  • Effectively communicate technical and commercial value propositions to customers.

Travel
  • Travel approximately 65% of the time to support customer meetings, site visits, trade shows, industry events, presentations, and business development activities.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned to support organizational objectives and operational requirements.

Requirements
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong business development, consultative selling, negotiation, and closing abilities.

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management capabilities.

  • Technical background in electrical systems, power generation, or related fields, including an electrical trade certification, power technologist designation, or equivalent experience.

  • Understanding of temporary power products, services, and applications.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience utilizing CRM platforms to manage sales activities and customer relationships (Salesforce experience preferred).

  • Professional demeanor with strong customer service and telephone communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and other cross-functional teams.

  • Flexibility to work beyond standard business hours when business needs require.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain driving eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with SAP Business One (SAP B1) ERP systems.

  • Previous experience in the temporary power, electrical services, power generation, or equipment rental industries.
