Job description

Who We Are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

As part of the Simulation team within the VN Software Development department of Symbotic, a US-based robotics warehouse automation company headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, you will contribute to building a Center of Excellence in Robotics, Simulation, AI, Cloud Platforms, and Digital Twin technologies.

This role is focused on the design, development, optimization, and scaling of simulation systems that support the design, development, qualification, and deployment of large-scale integrated robotic warehouse automation systems.

You will work closely with robotics engineers, controls engineers, perception engineers, system architects, cloud engineers, QA engineers, and product stakeholders to build simulation capabilities that enable faster engineering iteration, better system validation, improved operational readiness, and more informed technical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain simulation systems, tools, and virtual environments that support the development, testing, qualification, and deployment of robotic warehouse automation systems.
  • Develop faster-than-real-time, scalable, and optimized simulation environments to support engineering analysis, design validation, system testing, and operational planning.
  • Build and improve simulation capabilities across multiple levels of fidelity, including component-level, robot-level, fleet-level, and system-level simulation.
  • Evaluate existing simulation tools, identify performance, scalability, accuracy, and usability gaps, and drive improvements that enable faster and more cost-effective engineering workflows.
  • Support simulation coverage for individual robots, perception, controls, routing, fleet coordination, warehouse operations, and system-wide automation scenarios.
  • Collaborate with robotics, controls, perception, cloud, QA, and product teams to align simulation capabilities with product development, testing, deployment, and operational needs.
  • Provide senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders with clear technical insights, trade-off analysis, risks, and recommendations to support long-term simulation and robotics roadmaps.
  • Mentor other engineers, share technical knowledge, promote engineering best practices, and help the team deliver innovative and scalable simulation solutions.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, simulation design notes, configuration guides, and operational usage instructions.
  • Stay up to date with modern simulation technologies, robotics frameworks, digital twin platforms, physics engines, rendering engines, cloud-based simulation, and AI-assisted development tools.
  • Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned by the direct manager or the Employer.
Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with experience in simulation systems, robotics systems, optimization systems, or virtual environments.
  • Core Requirements{{:}}
  • Primary Stack{{:}} Professional Gz-Sim & ROS2 expertise
  • Languages{{:}} Mastery of C++ and Python. (Bonus point for C# and JS)
  • Strong software engineering foundation, with the ability to design, implement, test, optimize, and maintain complex simulation software.
  • Hands-on experience developing simulations, digital twins, virtual environments, or system modeling tools for real-world engineering applications.
  • Plus{{:}} Experienced with faster-than-real-time and multi-fidelity modeling in simulation.
  • Plus{{:}} Experience with cloud-based simulation, distributed simulation workloads, or scalable simulation infrastructure.
  • Plus{{:}} Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, or similar tools.
  • Good teamwork, communication, time management, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working proficiency in verbal and written English, with the ability to communicate independently in an international environment and clearly present technical concepts, findings, risks, and recommendations to leadership stakeholders.
