Job Summary
The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is seeking a strategic leader as the Senior Manager of Data Analytics. This person will be responsible for spearheading the organization's transition into a modern, data-driven environment. In addition, this person will champion the delivery of trusted data metrics, predictive insights, and advanced analytics to empower data-backed decision-making across all AAUM programs.
The Alumni Association operates a robust, Salesforce-centered technology ecosystem supporting alumni engagement, membership, events, communications, digital services, and customer-facing products. The Senior Manager will transform data harvested across this ecosystem into actionable insights that optimize organizational performance and elevate the alumni experience. Additionally, as a key player in the Alumni Association's broader technology modernization initiative, this role will drive the adoption of next-generation analytics platforms and champion data literacy across the organization.

Responsibilities*
  • Lead the transition from Alumni Association's current data analytics capabilities to advanced interactive and scalable dashboards and business intelligence solutions
  • Leverage leading-edge technologies to design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and visual analytics for all departments and programs across the Alumni Association
  • Partner with stakeholders, including MarComm and Program Managers to define KPIs, reporting standards, and meaningful measures of alumni engagement, including but not limited to event participation, membership, volunteering, retention, revenue, and various measures for program effectiveness
  • Analyze data across the Alumni Association's data repositories to identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and risks and communicate insights to program stakeholders
  • Develop forecasting models, predictive analyses, segmentation approaches, and other advanced analytical solutions to support planning, marketing, and business decision-making
  • Establish and maintain data integrity standards to ensure data accuracy and reliability
  • Help stakeholders understand not only what happened, but why it happened, what may happen next, and which actions may improve outcomes
  • Standardize business definitions, reporting logic, and metric governance to improve trust and consistency in organization-wide reporting
  • Collaborate with Salesforce administrators, system owners, and Technology teammates to improve data readiness, reporting architecture, and analytics usability
  • Evaluate and apply practical emerging technology, such as AI-enabled capabilities that support business intelligence, predictive insight, and effective and timely access to data and information
  • Contribute to data quality, integrity, documentation, governance, and analytics best practices across the organization
  • Support the Alumni Association's adoption of modern analytics tools and methods through stakeholder engagement, consultation, and training
  • Oversee the data-related budget in alignment with program needs and organizational goals
  • Effectively lead, manage, coach, assign work, and set goals, objectives, and expectations for the data team, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through regular performance reviews, guidance, and encouraging training while presenting new techniques, and recruiting/hiring staff as needed

General Responsibilities:
  • Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating Alumni Association core values: All In, Serving Heart, and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
  • Value and embrace different identities and perspectives, recognizing that everyone has unique and different experiences that contribute to the best solution seeking and success for the Alumni Association.
  • Work with Alumni Association staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility.
  • Be collaborative with all Alumni Association staff and teams. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan.
  • Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating Alumni Association value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
  • Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement into work.
  • Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events that may be during evenings or weekends, and staff retreats including offsite, overnight staff retreats at Camp Michigania.
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers as needed.
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
  • Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
  • Share knowledge through internal communication.
  • Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
  • Remain current with respect to technology and the university's educational resources.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in business intelligence, analytics, data analysis, and decision-support roles
  • Strong experience designing and delivering dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and reporting solutions for business stakeholders
  • Advanced proficiency in data management and experience with Business Intelligence and data visualization platforms such as Tableau, CRM Analytics, or similar tools
  • Experience with forecasting, trend analysis, segmentation, and other advanced analytical methods
  • Experience working with complex data environments, ideally including Salesforce CRM platforms
  • Strong ability to translate business needs into analytical solutions and actionable recommendations
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across business, functional, and technical teams

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with Salesforce reporting, Tableau Analytics, Data Cloud, Agentforce, and other Salesforce ecosystem tools
  • Experience in alumni relations, associations, membership organizations, nonprofits, or other constituent-centered organizations
  • Familiarity with data management best practices, ETL tools, MDM platforms, and Data queue solutions
  • Familiarity with data aggregation, data dictionaries, and data mastering best practices
  • Familiarity with alumni engagement, events, fundraising, marketing, membership, and digital engagement analytics
  • Experience with Python, R, or similar tools for statistical analysis and predictive modeling
  • Experience supporting business intelligence modernization, analytics transformation, or organization-wide BI initiatives
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled analytics tools and emerging business intelligence capabilities
  • Experience with data governance, metric standardization, and analytics operating models

The Alumni Center is located in Ann Arbor, MI. This position is hybrid and currently requires 2 days in the office a week. Starting in the fall, the position will require 3 days in the office a week.
