CORPORATE ACCOUNTING MANAGER – STEAK ‘n SHAKE

CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Steak ‘n Shake’s Corporate Accounting Manager understands the corporate mission and within that framework plays a critical role in support of Accounting and Operations. Core Duties include 1) management of all revenue channels and cash operations, 2) overseeing account administration, oversight of financial institution relationships including banks and merchant processors, 3) reviewing and reconciling point-of-sale (POS) transactions and ensuring dataflow integrity, 4) assisting the Cash Team Lead with the daily store deposit and reconciliation process, forecasting and management of all cash operations, 5) management of corporate financial reports, including monthly consolidation and eliminations, 6) international accounting, 7) special projects as needed including cost-benefit analysis of services, implementation of new technology, and process improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Corporate Accounting Manager duties include reconciling, recording, researching, monitoring, and analyzing both revenue and cash activity across the Steak ‘n Shake banking platform; establishing and maintaining bank accounts and services according to Treasury Controls; supporting Accounting and Operations with all things related to banking and armored carrier services; and establishing and maintaining strong partner relationships, both internal and external.

·         Oversee and maintain issuance of corporate and store financial reports, including monthly consolidations, eliminations, and allocations.

·         Responsible for ERP maintenance, including setup of new accounts, projects, allocation structures, and other maintenance required across the accounting department.

·         Preparing a daily cash forecast plan and monitoring to that plan, which includes communicating across functional departments and providing updates as needed to CAO and CEO.

·         Ensure both legal and ethical compliance upholding a fiduciary duty to the organization and ensure risk-management tactics are sufficient to ensure safeguarding and control of liquid assets.

·         Responsible for preparing and calculating gift card breakage estimate.

·         Oversee and maintain accounting records for international business in France, by working closely with international accounting firm and adjusting for any US GAAP differences, as well as managing fx translation and revaluation to USD.

·         Core member of the day-to-day support team and financial close process, responsible for activities that include, but are not limited to:

o    Understand banking hierarchy and manage cash transfers and sweeps

o    Oversee monthly bank and merchant processor reconciliations for all corporate and store level accounts

o    Assist Cash Accounting Team Lead with investigation of cash over and short issues, POS questions, and technical assistance with ERP and other IT related systems

o    Ensure SOX compliance and provide support for internal and external audits

o    Thorough knowledge of journal entry preparation and account reconciliation

o    Understanding of the banking and armored carrier industries as they relate to product offerings, services, and fees

o    Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures in conjunction with Accounting and Internal Audit

o    Perform day-to-day cash activities as needed to support Cash Accounting Team Lead

o    Produce and analyze bank reconciliation data and reports to resolve cash discrepancies, identify trends, and potential misappropriations

o    Work directly with leadership to resolve operational queries

o    Ensure both legal and ethical compliance upholding a fiduciary duty to the organization, and ensure risk-management tactics are sufficient to ensure safeguarding and control of liquid assets

·         Lead upcoming reconciliation software conversion for credit card and gift card reconciliation

·         Play a role in the Company’s planned journey for software evolution, which includes incorporating AI into existing or new processes to gain efficiency and replace basic tasks with more insight and analysis to provide value beyond the core function of accounting.

·         Identify improvement opportunities across the Organization’s functions, determine alternative courses of actions with those function leaders and implement process improvement

·         Continuous goal is to reduce “inefficiencies” in processes and identify cost and time savings

·         Assist Controller and Principal Accounting Officer with requests or projects as needed by Finance, Accounting, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

·         Perform ad-hoc reporting as needed

·         Other projects and duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

-          Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

-          5+ years of experience, preference in A/R, Revenue, Cash, Corporate Consolidations, or Treasury Management

o    Either CPA, CMA, CFA, or CTP a plus

-          Proficient with Microsoft applications, including Excel

-          Adaptability and flexibility as priorities change and job responsibilities broaden with increased knowledge/experience

-          Communicate effectively and efficiently

-          Provide superior customer service

-          Identify and solve problems/address issues quickly

-          Strong analytical thinking
