Job description

The Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications is responsible for providing leadership and day-to-day operational management and implementation of programs for all U.S. Coverys companies in the area of marketing communications and public relations. This includes management of the company's corporate communications activities for all products and services, including national advertising, thought leadership, channel marketing to clients and prospects, Agent/Broker communications vehicles, and oversight of public relations, social media as well as support for internal and crisis communication responsibilities as requested by leadership. In addition, this role will provide support services for Coverys international companies as requested.

The Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the organization's marketing communication strategies and programs and deliverables related to market penetration, lead generation and brand development and awareness. This position operates at both the strategic and tactical levels with marketing management and other company departments to develop strategy and implementation of programs for multiple audiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated strategic marketing communication plans to articulate and support Coverys products and services, and brand strategies for ongoing business support in regional and national marketplace.

  • Manage the Corporate Communications staff to plan and execute communication projects, including conceptualizing, writing, editing, execution, and evaluation.

  • Develop the company's national advertising campaign including the brand creative strategy, messaging, and corporate identity.

  • Manage responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Public relations, working with outside PR agency and internal leadership and content experts to develop and cultivate earned media coverage and our thought leadership strategy.

  • Develop and oversee crisis communications and public relations strategy and tactics designed to strengthen the image of the company. Function as a press spokesperson for the Company, as needed.

  • Oversea our social media strategy and campaigns to enhance company's brand awareness and image.

  • Support the company's association marketing strategy by segment with marketing communications tactics including sponsorships and tradeshow participation.

  • Analyze competitive landscape and target market's mindset and buying criteria to develop persuasive communication materials.

  • Manage outside resources such as advertising agencies, graphic designers, printers, or other services that must be outsourced to support the business needs of the company.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement strategic communication programs to promote business and corporate initiatives.

  • Produce clear, inviting and persuasive messaging with a consistent brand voice for consumers and agents that drives sales and customer loyalty.

  • Oversee editorial function for Coverys written product descriptions and corporate content including publications, Annual Report, PowerPoint presentations, marketing documents and letters, case studies, product and services descriptions, fact sheets, websites, internal SharePoint site, brochures, and videos.

  • Develop and manage media strategies aligned to reach targeted audiences and business goals.

  • Oversee communication strategy for all electronic and digital corporate and product marketing programs including company website, Agent and Policyholder portals, social media marketing, email marketing, SEO, and video production.

  • Plan and administer the department budget. Monitor and report on results.

  • Manage tradeshow display design, including pre and post promotions and marketing events.

  • Support design and content for marketing proposals, renewal materials, etc.

  • Develop and ensure adherence to corporate design and identity standards and style guide; provide guidance and direction to other departments on proper application of company design standards; approve ads and direct marketing pieces from agents that include Coverys' name and logo.

  • Develop and execute marketing programs for demand creation, lead generation and interface with marketing and CRM systems for telemarketing scripts, lead nurturing, tracking and management.

  • Support Business Development channel partner marketing efforts with communication strategies and materials.

  • Coordinate product and service launches with product development,risk management, claims and marketing to ensure the successful delivery of sales tools, collateral, and other launch materials.

  • Develop and track metrics and success criteria for all corporate communications programs and activities.

  • Support merger and acquisition implementation efforts with branding and outreach communication materials.

  • Implement and administer the branding review portion of the Publications Review Policy and Procedure (owned by Legal).

  • Fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education, Experience, Competencies & Values

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of related work experience, master's degree preferred or equivalent industry experience.

  • Previous experience managing and leading a team required.

  • Broad understanding of marketing concepts, the company's business plan and how strategic and tactical communications support the business goals of the organization.

  • Working knowledge of the healthcare and insurance industry preferred.

  • Experience developing and writing creative marketing plans.

  • Proven and successful track record of developing persuasive communications that support lead generation as it relates to market strategies.

  • Demonstrates understanding of a variety of graphic design, print and electronic communication tools and media.

  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain records using office suite software.

  • Proven ability to write effectively for a variety of communication vehicles, including internal and external programs, processes, press releases, special events, and marketing media in both print and electronic mediums.

  • Experience developing or managing social media initiatives including digital marketing strategy, andanalytics, requiring skills in content creation, platform management (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.), SEO, and Google Analytics or other tools.

  • Public relations experience, including media relations, problem-solving, thought leadership strategy, campaign management, and the ability to work under pressure to build and maintain a positive public image.

  • Excellent editing skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with comprehensive planning, scheduling, communication, and negotiation skills.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team, exercising sound judgment to achieve goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and manage communications plan and programs.

The base salary range for this role is $134,200 - $157,800. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
