Come join our team! As a Pharmacy Technician at the Macon-Bibb County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Job Responsibilities: Under general supervision, prepares medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications. May serve as a lead worker.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, measure, label, package, and document medications in accordance with established procedures and pharmacist supervision.
  • Transfer medications into sterile, disposable syringes while maintaining compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
  • Receive, review, and process prescription orders and refill requests to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Enter, maintain, and verify medication, inventory, billing, and demographic information within electronic record systems.
  • Support medication dispensing activities by preparing prescriptions, affixing labels, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Operate and monitor automated medication dispensing equipment to ensure accurate distribution and inventory control.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and provide customer service support, referring clinical and medication-related questions to the appropriate pharmacist.
  • Assist patients, clients, and health department staff by providing information, locating resources, and facilitating access to pharmacy services.
  • Calculate and document charges associated with medications, supplies, and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records to support pharmacy operations, inventory management, and program compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards related to pharmacy operations. Perform additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities and essential functions may change to meet organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience working in a pharmacy; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Pharmacy Tech 2 (HCS031) or position equivalent.

A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
