Who we're looking for

Toyota is looking for team members who are passionate about technology and interested in joining a collaborative and highly motivated team as aSenior Manager - Intelligent Systems Engineering.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead a hands-on engineering function that accelerates the practical adoption of AI, automation, and agentic capabilities across engineering teams. This role turns emerging AI opportunities into reusable patterns, prototypes, and secure implementation guidance that improve engineering productivity and delivery quality.

Reporting to the General Manager - Cloud Computing Engineering, the person in this role will join the Engineering, Cloud, and Software Development team to build and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and systems.

What you'll be doing

  • Identify high-value opportunities to apply AI, automation, and agent-based workflows across the engineering stack and build working prototypes that demonstrate measurable engineering value
  • Define practical patterns for AI agents across planning, coding, testing, security review, deployment, and operations, with clear human-in-the-loop checkpoints
  • Translate prototypes into reusable patterns, reference implementations, and adoption guidance that move teams beyond isolated experiments
  • Partner with security & architecture teams to define safe AI implementation guardrails for identity, access, data exposure, prompt and context handling, logging, and auditability
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers; drive adoption across DevEx, platform engineering, security, and product engineering through credibility and execution
  • Incubate emerging ideas, validate technical feasibility, and transition mature capabilities to long-term owning teams
  • Drive measurable improvements in developer productivity, delivery quality, and engineering speed while reducing duplication across teams experimenting with AI

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent years of experience (an additional 4 years if no degree)
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3+ years leading engineering teams in AI, automation, platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud engineering
  • Hands-on experience building or enabling internal developer platforms, automation frameworks, or reusable engineering capabilities at enterprise scale
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools, agent frameworks, CI/CD platforms, cloud-native architecture, and secure implementation patterns (identity, access, secrets, auditability)
  • Demonstrated ability to drive adoption across cross-functional teams through influence, credibility, and practical execution

Added bonus if you have

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role at a large enterprise
  • Hands-on experience with agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel), LLM platforms (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude), evaluation harnesses, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar secure tool-use patterns
