Job description

Job Type
Full-time
Description
Project Luong Architects is seeking a talented and design-driven Interior Designer to help shape thoughtful, elevated environments within our civic, community, recreation, hospitality, and mixed-use projects.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong eye for aesthetics and composition who also understands the technical realities of construction, detailing, material performance, and furniture coordination. We are looking for a designer who excels at concept development but can also move fluidly between concept development and technical execution - someone who cares equally about atmosphere, functionality, proportion, and the way spaces are ultimately experienced by people.
The ideal candidate is creative, highly organized, visually sophisticated, and capable of contributing meaningfully throughout all phases of design and documentation.
What You'll Do
  • Develop interior design concepts, palettes, material selections, and spatial experiences aligned with overall project vision
  • Contribute actively to project design direction and creative problem solving throughout all phases of work
  • Produce interior architecture and design documentation including plans, elevations, finish schedules, and detailing
  • Support coordination and consistency across drawing sets, specifications, and project documentation
  • Coordinate interior scope with architectural teams, consultants, vendors, and manufacturers
  • Research and specify interior finishes, furnishings, fixtures, lighting, and materials
  • Assist in furniture selection, layout planning, procurement coordination, and installation oversight
  • Prepare presentation materials, renderings, mood boards, and client-facing graphics, and physical material boards
  • Contribute to design discussions for the entirety of the project related to proportion, scale, materiality, lighting, and user experience.
  • Coordinate technical material specifications and ensure selections align with project budgets, durability, and constructability requirements
  • Lead interior-focused projects or project scopes with minimal oversight from senior staff
  • Support construction administration efforts including submittal review, finish verification, and field coordination
  • Participate in client meetings, vendor coordination, and project presentations
  • Maintain organization and consistency across project documentation and design deliverables

Compensation & Benefits
Project Luong Architects offers competitive compensation and a benefits package that supports both professional growth and personal well-being, including:
• Salary - $65k to $85k
Benefits include...
• Company contributed Medical/Dental/Vision (Company pays 80% of premiums for employees)
• Employee paid Life/AD&D, Short-term and Long-term Disability
• Company matched 401K plan
• 3 weeks of Paid Time Off
• 10 Company paid Holidays plus 2 days of Floating Holidays
• Paid Maternity/Paternity Leave (8 weeks)
• Annual Profit Sharing
• Flexible Hours
• Hybrid Weekly Work Schedule
• Flexible Location Program (July or December)
• MWBE Firm with Employee Diversity
• Professional Development Opportunities
• Professional Organization Memberships + Networking Events
• Breakfast every Tuesday
• Employee Social Activities and Teambuilding
• Exercise Facility on site (complimentary membership)
• Voted "2023 and 2024 Best Places to Work: Small" by Houston Business Journal
We believe in investing in our people and creating an environment where talented professionals can build meaningful, long-term careers.
At Project Luong Architects, Interior Designers play a critical role in shaping the experience, identity, and atmosphere of the spaces we create from early concept through substantial completion.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in interior design and architecture
  • Professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
  • Understanding of hospitality, civic, and community sectors, with experience in hotels and/or community centers.
  • Strong creative skills for development of interior designs. Interest in architectural design is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of interior detailing, finish applications, furniture systems, and material specifications
  • Proficiency in Revit (this is a must!), Adobe Creative Suite or Photoshop/Gimp (image editing software), and Microsoft Office Suite. Sketchup and Enscape proficiency is a plus.
  • Experience preparing finish palettes, FF&E budgets, FF&E selections and specification packages, and presentation materials
  • Knowledge of furniture vendors, specifications, and coordination processes preferred
  • Strong graphic communication and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to balance creativity with technical coordination and documentation accuracy
  • NCIDQ certification or active pursuit of licensure preferred
  • Experience with 3D modeling, rendering, and visualization tools preferred
  • Interest in professional organizations, industry engagement, and continued professional growth

Characteristics of Success
  • Possesses a strong eye for composition, proportion, texture, and color
  • Thinks holistically about how spaces feel and function
  • Balances creativity with technical precision
  • Communicates ideas clearly both visually and verbally
  • Takes initiative and ownership of work
  • Handles feedback professionally and collaborates effectively with teams
  • Maintains attention to detail across both design and documentation
