Job description


Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Manager, Health Information Management, you will provide oversight for managing all health information management/medical record functions for selected outpatient areas.
Every day you will ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will also provide ongoing consulting services to other hospital departments and clinics that maintain their own patient records, and support Compliance by providing ongoing training, education, and consulting services in the area of patient privacy, in compliance with the privacy regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
To be successful in this role, you will effectively manage comprehensive health information functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, providing expert consultation across departments, and championing patient privacy practices.

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices and proactively applies that knowledge to the health information services function.
  • Directs all Health Information Management functions. Establishes policies, procedures, standards, and departmental objectives. Prepares budget for department. Maintains productivity requirements for HIM. Directs hiring and evaluation of staff.
  • Provides direction to organization regarding documentation, record completion requirements, release of information, and record storage for regulatory requirements. Provides input to the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program.
  • Serves as a resource for hospital staff, physicians, patients, and families regarding SJHMC change to Dignity Health Medical Group, BNI, NTI, and privacy policies and patient rights under HIPAA.
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces, including: Accreditation Committee, Forms Committee, HIS Task Force, Quality Council, Revenue Cycle Enhancement Committee, Faculty Practice Compliance Committee, and other ad hoc committees as assigned.
Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree Health Information Management or related field
  • Four (4)+ years Management experience
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

or

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

**Required travel to Las Vegas, NV and Prescott, AZ


Preferred

  • Master's degree Health Information Management or related field
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
