Job description

If so, you could be Carson’s next Tax and Regulatory Compliance Accountant.  We have an immediate opening in our NW Portland office.

This position will be part of the finance team and be responsible for performing various tax accounting and compliance functions.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the day-to-day aspects of the sales and use tax compliance function - including processing, preparing returns, reviewing returns, e-filing, confirmation of e-filing and ensuring all deadlines are met for tax filings including, but not limited to, Fuel Tax, Sales Tax, Use Tax, WA Business & Occupation Tax, and Regulatory Fees.
  • Make sure the Company complies with federal, state and local tax and compliance regulations
  • Resolve tax related issues resulting from jurisdictional notices, accounting customer service inquiries, and/or inquiries from Company personnel (operations, legal, etc.).
  • Keep up-to-date with tax changes and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities, participating in professional organizations, keeping up with professional networks and reading professional publications.
  • Communicate with government agencies and auditors as needed
  • Support continuous improvement in the department by reviewing, recommending and implementing process change to increase efficiencies and automation.
  • Manage and maintain Tax setups in PDI (ERP Software)
  • Assist with State Low Carbon Fuel Standard Reporting and other state compliance for Carson Companies
  • Prepare month-end accruals, deferrals and other journal entries as necessary to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the financial statements
  • Understand and prepare tax account reconciliations
  • Interaction with other divisions throughout the West Coast region
  • Maintain a team environment with other employees and departments
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere
  • Other special projects and requests as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business is required
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting and tax experience
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • ERP Software experience a plus
  • Attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and DMV check.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Frequently operate a computer
  • Interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices
  • Move about the facility to access file cabinets, documents, office machinery, and other equipment
  • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than 25 (25) pounds
  • Data entry while seated for greater than one-half (1/2) hour.
