Controller / Comptroller

Southeastern North Carolina Oil Gas Distribution

Company

A well-established and growing oil and gas distribution company in Southeastern North
Carolina is seeking an experienced Controller/Comptroller to lead and manage all
accounting and financial operations for a large, multi-entity organization.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of
financial reporting, regulatory compliance, tax filings, payroll administration, and internal
controls.
Position Summary
The Controller/Comptroller will oversee all day-to-day accounting functions and provide
strategic financial leadership to support company operations. The ideal candidate will have
extensive accounting experience within the petroleum, fuel distribution, or oil and gas
industry and a strong understanding of industry-specific tax and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
 Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts
receivable, cash management, bank reconciliations, payroll processing, and financial
statement preparation.
 Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
 Ensure timely and accurate filing of fuel tax reports, sales and use tax returns,
employment tax filings, state and federal tax reports, and annual Form 5500.
 Manage payroll processing using Pensoft Payroll.
 Utilize Microsoft accounting software and Excel for reporting and analysis.
 Coordinate annual audits and work with outside CPAs, tax advisors, and financial
institutions.
 Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
 Assist ownership and executive management with budgeting, forecasting, and financial
analysis.
 Oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
 CPA designation preferred but not required.
 Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership
responsibilities.
 Prior experience in oil and gas, petroleum distribution, or fuel marketing required.

 Extensive knowledge of fuel tax reporting, sales tax, payroll tax compliance, and Form
5500 preparation.
 Experience with Pensoft Payroll Software required.
 Proficiency with Microsoft accounting products and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
 Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
 High level of integrity and confidentiality.
