Pay Info: $31/hr - $36/hr PLUS $5.09/hr Health & Wellness (H&W) benefit


Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. We are highly focused and, among other efforts, currently operate a dozen active test and/or training ranges for the Army, Air Force and Navy. SA-TECH currently supports the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWCAD) Naval Air Systems Command, and the NAWCAD Webster Outlying Field Divisions by providing rapid organic engineering, prototyping, reverse-engineering, environmental testing, antenna repairs and life-cycle extensions, and production capabilities.


We are currently looking to hire an Fiberglass Laminator & Fabricator at our St. Inigoes, MD facilities to perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment.


The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned as well):

  • Apply lacquers and waxes to mold surfaces to facilitate assembly and removal of laminated parts.
  • Apply layers of resin to mold surfaces prior to placement of fiberglass/material mats, repeating layers until products have the desired thicknesses and resins have jelled.
  • Bond reinforcing strips to structures using resin-saturated fiberglass/material.
  • Check all dies, templates, and cutout patterns to be used in the manufacturing process to ensure that they conform to dimensional data, photographs, blueprints, samples, and/or customer specifications.
  • Check completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects by measuring, checking visually, or by tapping to detect bubbles or dead spots.
  • Manufacture, inspect, clean, and assemble molds before beginning work.
  • Mask off mold areas which are not to be laminated, using appropriate materials or special sprays containing mold-release substances.
  • Select precut fiberglass/material mats, cloth, and bracing materials as required by projects being assembled.
  • Mix catalysts into resins, and saturate cloth and mats with mixtures, using brushes.
  • Pat or press layers of saturated matting or cloth into place on molds, using brushes or hands, and smooth out wrinkles and air bubbles with hands or squeegees.
  • Release air bubbles and smooth seams, using rollers.
  • Cure materials at room temperature, under heat lamps, or in ovens according to technical requirements.
  • Trim cured materials by sawing them with appropriate cutoff wheels, hand shears, or trimming knives.
  • Repair or modify damaged or defective glass-fiber or composite parts, checking thicknesses, densities, and contours to ensure a close fit after repair.
  • Other tasks, as required, to support customer requirements.

Work Conditions:

  • Conditions will vary.
  • Capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0-120.
  • Position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Overtime is a requirement of this position.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Formal trade school, college, or military training school highly desired.
  • Minimum of four (4) years hands-on experience in fiberglass/composite material fabrication, assembly, and repair.
  • Skilled with precision hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Must have ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and project requirements.
  • Must be capable of completing projects according to cost, schedule, and technical specifications.
  • Must possess ability to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff on all levels of effort.
  • Current Maryland Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must already have or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
