Position Title
The golf course maintenance employee reports directly to the Director of Golf Operations. Under the Director's supervision, this employee directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The maintenance worker may serve in the director's capacity during his absence.
Essential Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • The golf course maintenance employee assumes responsibility for maintaining golf course properties, under the supervision of the Director of Golf Operations, which may include:
    • The golf course
    • The clubhouse
    • Maintenance equipment
    • The golf cart fleet
    • The clubhouse grounds and landscaping
    • Open spaces, unused acreage, and areas outside the perimeter of the golf course out of bounds
    • Sod farm and nursery
    • Other properties as specified in writing by the City Manager or Golf Board

Summary of Qualification Requirements
  • Requires a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Requires a knowledge of turfgrass diseases and methods and chemicals used to control them.
  • Requires the understanding of turfgrass equipment repair and service procedures, including the irrigation system and pump systems.
  • Requires knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety, environmental standards, laws and regulations)
  • Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
  • Requires state certification and licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Requires tact and courtesy with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Requires possession of a valid Iowa driver's license, with an acceptable driving record.

Additional Information
The golf course maintenance employee will perform sufficiently in the following areas:
  • Clarity of speech, hearing, and vision
  • Manual dexterity, use of body extremities and personal mobility (with or without reasonable accommodation)
    which permits the employee to promptly, accurately, and safely perform the duties of this position
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds to chest height
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds from floor level to a height of approximately 30 inches
  • Ability to comply with DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing requirements, including passing required drug and alcohol tests
  • Ability to pass an employment physical including drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to perform other physical characteristics include walking, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
