Job description

Golf Coach - Spring 2027 | Des Moines Prep

About Des Moines Prep

Des Moines Prep is a new growing public charter school in downtown Des Moines committed to achieving exceptional outcomes for students: where they own and drive their learning and love their school experience. Our model combines rigorous college preparatory academics and a robust student-centered approach to instruction. We believe students learn best when they are known well, challenged deeply, and supported fully.

Des Moines Prep opened in 2025 and serves grades 8–9, expanding to serve grades 7–12 in the coming years. Our school emphasizes agency, purpose, and preparation for the future, giving students opportunities to explore college and career pathways and pursue their ambitions in a supportive, close-knit environment.

About the Role: Golf Coach - Spring 2027

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate founding Golf Coach to build and lead the program at Des Moines Prep. This is a rare opportunity to establish something from the ground up — shaping team culture, designing training programs, and inspiring a combined girls and boys roster to grow in swing mechanics, course management, mental toughness, and love of the game.

As the founding coach, you will be laying the foundation for what will become a varsity program — setting the tone, the standards, and the traditions that will define Des Moines Prep golf for years to come. Ideal candidates bring coaching or competitive golf experience, strong leadership skills, and a genuine commitment to youth development. A passion for introducing young men and women to the game — and everything it teaches about integrity, patience, and perseverance — is essential.

This is a part-time role leading after-school practices with a combined girls and boys team several days per week, with tournament coordination and course-side coaching throughout the season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive golf training program
  • Organize and lead practices, range sessions, on-course playing opportunities, and team events
  • Build a positive and inclusive team culture aligned with school values and the traditions of the game
  • Coordinate logistics for tournaments, transportation, tee times, equipment, and registration with golf associations
  • Communicate regularly with student-athletes, families, and school staff about tournament schedules, expectations, and player development
  • Ensure student-athletes meet eligibility requirements and maintain academic expectations
  • Build relationships with local golf courses and driving ranges to secure practice facilities and playing opportunities
  • Attend required coaching trainings, meetings, and any relevant golf association certifications or clinics
Ideal Candidate Experiences
  • Required - Coaching Authorization
  • Ideal - Experience in golf or organizing athletic programs; previous coaching experience (especially golf teams)
Ideal Candidate Traits
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes
  • Passion for youth development
  • Excited to work alongside a founding team and shape the future of athletics at Des Moines Prep
  • Committed to Des Moines Prep's mission of excellence and joy for students, staff, and families
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Availability for after-school practices and evening or weekend games or tournaments

Compensation

We will be offering a semester stipend for this position of $5000.
