Job description

APM Terminals
This role supports the safe and efficient execution of daily vessel operations through leadership, resource coordination, operational performance management, safety compliance, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives within a marine terminal environment.
Assistant Operations Manager, Marine
At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving - observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be apart of our journey.
What We Can Offer
At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.
  • Work in a dynamic port environment supporting critical marine and vessel operations.
  • Develop leadership capabilities through direct supervision, coaching, and operational decision-making.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using operational data and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to drive terminal performance and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate safe and efficient vessel and marine operations to achieve productivity and service objectives.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop frontline supervisors and operational personnel while supporting performance management and employee growth.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and operational resources to maximize vessel productivity and terminal efficiency.
  • Monitor operational performance in real time, resolving issues and minimizing delays to support timely vessel turnaround.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, environmental requirements, and applicable maritime regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with vessel planning, yard operations, maintenance teams, shipping lines, and port partners to maintain seamless operations.
  • Analyze operational KPIs and performance trends to identify opportunities for productivity improvements and operational excellence.

What We Are Looking For
Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset-curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Bring 3-5 years of progressive experience in terminal, marine, logistics, transportation, port operations, or a related operational environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of container terminal operations, marine vessel activities, and cargo handling processes.
  • Possess an understanding of terminal equipment utilization and vessel productivity drivers.
  • Apply strong leadership, coaching, and employee development capabilities in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field, or possess an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Salary: $80K - $90K
Hours: This role supports a continuous terminal operation and requires flexibility to work varying schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
