Job description

Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics through on the job application of the following skills:

  1. Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems by changing cylinders, air valves and associated components
  2. Performs basic mechanical repairs such as replacing sheaves, belts, chains, sprockets, and other components
  3. Assists in repair and rebuild of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, gear boxes, valves, cylinders, and other rebuildable components
  4. Uses stick welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting rig safely
  5. Fabricates fixtures, platforms and components
  6. Welds and cuts within specifications set by Maintenance Supervision and according to verbal or written instructions
  7. Reads and interprets schematics of complex pneumatic and hydraulic systems and other systems
  8. Identifies and corrects problems in a preventative manner
  9. Uses maintenance shop tools and hand tools including milling machines, lathes, key machines, drill presses, bandsaws, hand drills and grinders
  10. Machines or assists in the machining of simple components, such as boring sprockets, keying and milling. Performs setup operations for machining tools in the machine shop
  11. Catches calls and completes assignments in a prompt manner with limited assistance from other personnel
  12. Demonstrates excellent housekeeping practices, including maintaining an orderly parts room and a clean shop area
  13. Performs other routine duties, such as operating cranes, manlifts, and forklifts
  14. Consistently responds to calls in a timely manner, completes assignments with high quality in a timely manner and completes time sheets properly
  15. Consistently exhibits positive attitude, is supportive of Boise Cascade, sets a good example for other employees, and is a team player committed to making Boise Cascade successful
  16. Follows Company policies, procedures and safety rules

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum one year of professional maintenance experience; or satisfactory completion of an accredited technical school maintenance program
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  4. Ability to effectively communicate preventative maintenance to supervisors and machine operators
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals
  6. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  7. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  8. Ability to comprehend and interpret basic mechanical prints and schematics of systems
  9. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations without supervision
