Maintenance DirectorPosition Summary

The Maintenance Director is responsible for overseeing all facility maintenance operations, ensuring equipment, building systems, and outdoor areas are safe, functional, and compliant with regulations. This role manages plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water, sewage, and fire safety systems; performs and documents preventive maintenance; coordinates contract services; and completes routine repairs. The Maintenance Director supervises maintenance staff, assigns tasks, participates in hiring and evaluations, and provides training during onboarding. Additional responsibilities include managing inventory, ordering supplies and equipment within budget guidelines, and maintaining clear purchasing documentation. The position also supports compliance and quality improvement efforts by staying current with state and federal regulations, attending trainings and audits, and contributing to policy development. A professional and collaborative approach is essential, as the Maintenance Director supports other departments, upholds resident rights and confidentiality, and is available for evening or weekend needs when required.

Qualifications
  • Must have thorough knowledge of general maintenance, such as: boilers, heating and air conditioning units, refrigerators and freezers, electrical wiring, etc.

  • Boiler license is required.

  • Must possess leadership ability and the ability and willingness to cooperate and communicate with all staff and Department Directors.

  • Must qualify for employment, after criminal background study, per guidelines of the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

  • Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing facility or assisted living community

  • Minnesota Engineer-Class C license is preferred

  • Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and power plant work is desirable.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and pivot with sudden demands of your attention

  • Ability to clearly speak and proficiently read and write in English
