Maintenance assistants keep a facility clean, tidy, and well-maintained. You find maintenance assistants in nearly all industries--from large corporations to small retirement homes. Maintenance assistants not only need to clean surfaces, equipment, and floors, they also need to be able to fix minor plumbing, electrical, or carpentry issues. Experience in cleaning buildings and other handyman skills are essential qualifications for this position, though most companies also provide on-the-job training.

What are the 5 basic maintenance skills?

Maintenance assistants need basic skills such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and troubleshooting. These skills enable them to perform routine repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance in various facilities. Familiarity with tools and safety procedures is also essential for effective job performance.

The role requires good problem-solving skills and may involve working with HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, or general repairs.

What is the highest paying maintenance job?

The highest paying maintenance jobs are often specialized roles such as industrial maintenance managers, facilities managers, or maintenance supervisors in large manufacturing or energy sectors. These positions typically require advanced technical skills, certifications, and experience, and can offer salaries significantly higher than general maintenance roles.

What qualifications do you need to be a maintenance assistant?
