Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Mailroom Assistant to join our team in Houston, Texas.

Summary
The Mailroom Assistant inventories inbound orders and distributes the inventory to appropriate personnel. This position is also responsible for sorting incoming mail for distribution. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inventories inbound orders and distributes inventory to appropriate service center personnel.
  • Tracks and reports on lost, stolen, and damaged inventory.
  • Responsible for controlling all material moves from the inventory/mailroom.
  • Performs full physical inventory as required.
  • Stamps date and time of receipt on incoming mail.
  • Sorts mail according to destination and type such as returned letters, adjustments, bills, and payments.
  • Manages undeliverable or returned mail according to operational business rules.
  • Examines outgoing mail for appearance and seals envelopes by hand or machine.
  • Stamps outgoing mail by hand or with postage meter.
  • Folds letters or circulars and inserts in envelopes.
  • Distributes and collects mail.
  • Weighs mail to determine that postage is correct.
  • Keeps record of registered mail. 

Requirements and Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft/E
  • Effective communication skills.
  • One year of mail processing experience.
  • Adapts quickly, efficiently and positively to various projects assigned.
  • Excellent phone, data entry, customer service and problem solving skills.
  • Must maintain a good attendance record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires frequent use of keyboard and mouse, must be able to wear a headset for prolonged periods. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
