Job description

Overview

Calspan's Transonic Wind Tunnel is the only independently owned and operated wind tunnel in the United States. Our staff is known for its flexibility and responsiveness to our customers' needs. Customers appreciate this approach, as it enables them in real time to refine test programs. We are looking for an experienced and versatile Machine Mechanic to join our team! Due to the security requirements for this position, US Citizenship is required. Please note, this is a 3rd shift position.

Responsibilities
  • Rig, move, install, repair, and retime a wide variety of machines, pumps, valves, compressors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery. Perform basic diagnostic tests to check performance and test damaged parts to determine the level of necessary repairs.ย  Plan, layout, work from and study complex drawings and/or sketches.

  • Prepare cement foundations, rig and position machines or equipment.ย  Modify and set-up equipment for calibration testing.

  • Analyze failures and implement appropriate remedies efficiently and in the most efficient way possible without compromising safety.ย  Detect problems and correct them.ย  Maintain preventative maintenance logs.

  • Perform a variety of construction and repair work, weld broken parts and fixtures.ย ย  Disassemble equipment to repair or replace the necessary parts.ย 

  • Following standard safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others.ย  Responsible for tools, machines, equipment, etc. used while performing work.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (preferably from a vocational or technical school)
  • 3+ years of trades training or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Use hand and power tools as appropriate and repair small tools
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments, such as rule, square, micrometer, level, speed indicator, etc.
  • Shop mechanics and operation of machine tools
  • Electronic and computer skills
  • Mechanical aptitude, read blueprints
