Facility: Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center – Walworth
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Night Shift, 40 Hours per Week
Start Date: ASAP

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join a hospital laboratory team in Lake Geneva, WI. The ideal candidate will possess strong generalist laboratory skills with experience in hematology and blood bank testing. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative healthcare environment while supporting quality patient care through accurate and timely laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process patient specimens.

  • Perform laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, and/or microbiology.

  • Analyze and verify test results for accuracy and validity prior to reporting.

  • Ensure critical values are communicated and documented according to policy.

  • Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation activities.

  • Troubleshoot quality control issues and laboratory instrumentation.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.

  • Utilize EPIC and laboratory information systems for specimen tracking, result reporting, and documentation.

  • Participate in instrument evaluations, method validations, and implementation of new procedures.

  • Assist in training and mentoring laboratory staff and students.

  • Maintain competency and compliance with laboratory standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Current MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, or M).

  • Hematology and Blood Bank experience required.

  • Education verification required.

  • Must meet CLIA high-complexity testing personnel qualifications (42 CFR 493.1489).

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous hospital laboratory experience.

  • Experience working with EPIC or similar laboratory information systems.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Assignment Details

  • 13-week contract assignment.

  • Night shift schedule.

  • 40 hours per week.

  • Holiday coverage required.

  • No state license required for this position.
