OVERVIEW:

A lab technician works in a laboratory setting and works in various capacities to fulfill required duties. This includes diagnostic testing on bodily fluids, organic matter, and chemicals. They use high-specialized equipment to measure and report their findings. Collects samples and safely store biomedical materials and tools.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Receives specimens from doctors, laboratories, hospitals, or directly from patients, and performs complex quantitative and qualitative analyses to provide information for use in the diagnosis
  2. Documents all quality control and maintains required records
  3. Troubleshoot any or all automatic, semi-automatic, or manual equipment within the laboratory and ensure it is in working order
  4. Performs Quality Control and maintenance procedures as required
  5. Interacts with and/or performs clinical laboratory procedures on patients of all ages

RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  1. Perform quality control tests in the lab as well as on-site when necessary
  2. Assist with testing and calibrating lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks
  3. Perform quality control tests on ingredients, completed products and product samples
  4. Prepare samples prior to shipping them to outside vendors
  5. Follows all company policies and procedures to ensure product integrity and quality control
  6. Obtains specimens from clinical laboratory examination directly from any patient of any age, including infants
  7. Near visual acuity is required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens
  8. Analyze retrieved data and prepare reports for laboratory manager
  9. Perform any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and/or hospital
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma
  2. Associate degree required (Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred)
  3. Five plus years laboratory experience
  4. Ability to communicate effectively

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting.
  2. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patientโ€™s manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination.
  3. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  4. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  5. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges
  6. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
  7. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and/or clinic environment
