Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Arkansas State University-Beebe seeks a qualified part-time instructor to teach Clinical Microbiology within the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program. The instructor will be responsible for delivering course content and supervising laboratory instruction specific to microbiological techniques used in clinical laboratories. Instruction will focus on microbial taxonomy, specimen collection and handling, cultivation, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of medically significant organisms. The position requires teaching both didactic (lecture) and hands-on lab components while adhering to institutional guidelines, NAACLS accreditation standards, and clinical laboratory safety protocols. The instructor will work closely with the MLT Program Director to support student learning, curriculum effectiveness, and program improvement. This course is taught over a 4-week period, and compensation is $650 per credit hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Deliver and update course materials, including syllabi, lectures, and lab exercises focused on Clinical Microbiology.
  • Instruct and supervise MLT students in proper microbiological techniques during lab sessions.
  • Assess student learning through exams, quizzes, practicals, and assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and grades.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student learning and professional growth.
  • Ensure all lab activities follow biosafety guidelines and good laboratory practices.
  • Communicate regularly with the MLT Program Director regarding student performance and course updates.
  • Align course delivery with institutional, programmatic, and NAACLS standards.

Required Qualifications
  1. Minimum of an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)
  2. Current certification as an MLT, MLS (ASCP), or equivalent national certification required.
  3. At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
  4. Prior teaching or instructional experience in an academic or clinical environment is preferred.
