Job description

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a lumber grader in South Austin. The lumber grader will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials and products within the warehouse. The primary function will involve operating a sit-down forklift to load, unload, transport, and organize inventory.

As a lumber grader you’ll be responsible:
  • Operate a sit-down forklift to transport materials throughout the warehouse, loading and unloading trucks, moving goods to designated storage areas, and stacking materials.
  • Making sure that different wood is cataloged correctly and stored in the proper place. Cut selected sizes of lumber and grade them and then stack all sizes on pallets to be shipped.
  • Assist with inventory control by ensuring that materials are moved to the correct locations and tracked accurately within the warehouse management system.
  • Safely move and handle materials of various sizes, weights, and shapes. Ensure materials are stored properly to prevent damage or deterioration.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while operating forklifts and performing other duties. Ensure that all safety equipment is used and that work areas remain clear of hazards.
  • Assist in receiving incoming shipments, checking the materials for accuracy, and organizing them within the warehouse. Prepare outgoing shipments for delivery to customers or other locations.
  • Utilize forklifts to load and unload trucks, ensuring that items are properly secured and
  • Work closely with other warehouse and production team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Communicate effectively regarding inventory levels, orders, and any material handling concerns.
What you’ll need:
  • Previous experience as a lumberyard worker, warehouse worker, or similar role, with at least 1-2 years of sit-down forklift operation experience.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (preferred)
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively with team members.
  • Ability to operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices for warehouse operations.
